Pros: Walk to the beach in three minutes, spacious rooms, free hot breakfast, no resort fee
Cons: 19 floor tower has only two elevators

I recently stayed at the Hyatt Place for three nights and I was delightfully surprised. I would unhesitatingly recommend this hotel to families who want a hotel that can accommodate four or five people easily. I checked in quickly and stayed in the taller of the two buildings. Most hotels in Waikiki charge $25 or $30 for a resort fee that includes everything that you don’t need, don’t want, or should be free (e.g., wireless internet, long-distance calls, newspaper). The Hyatt Place doesn’t charge a resort fee, but they still provide outstanding amenities and service. You can get towels to take to Kuhio Beach, which is a block away. They serve a free hot breakfast everyday, starting at 6:30 AM. When I was there, the entrees included scrambled eggs, hotcakes, waffles, and breakfast sandwiches. They also serve miso soup, steamed rice and kim chee, a nice touch. Think of how much breakfast costs in Waikiki: at least $15 to $18 per person. That’s how much you’ll save at the Hyatt Place.

Families want room to spread out, and the hotel offers plenty. We were a family of four, and the room came with two queen beds and a sofa bed. The bathroom was good-sized, as well. The room came with a desk for working, a small terrace, and a refrigerator. If you find that you need something, there is an ABC convenience store a few steps away.

The hotel is a block from Kalakaua Avenue, the “main drag” in Waikiki. It is adjacent to Kuhio Street, another major street in Waikiki. The hotel is on the eastern edge of Waikiki, within walking distance to the zoo, Kapiolani Park, and other major attractions in Waikiki.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the less traffic noise

Just spent 9 days in Waikiki with the family of 5 with teenagers. I had planned to stay a couple days at Hyatt Place as a landing pad for a few days then move on. I found the hotel pleasant, the service exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room accommodated us well. Very comfortable. The location is very convenient, couple of minutes walk off of the main street and easy walking distance to everything. We ended up staying at this hotel for our entire stay! I walked through the others (Marriott, Sheraton, Regency, ...). They were a bit fancier and nice pools but really offered nothing more than what we already had. The pool is nothing to go for, but who needs a pool when the Waikiki beach itself is 1.5 blocks and 5 minutes! Free breakfast and free wifi -- a must and huge bonus when travelling with teenagers.

Room Tip: there is ocean view side (view through between other buildings) and city view.

Good location and value for money. Easy going and friendly atmosphere. We were upgraded to a room on the penthouse floor which was great. The beds were comfortable and rooms cleaned daily. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend staying here to my friends.
