We have holidayed in Honolulu several times and never without shopping here at least 3 times per visit. Allow hours as it is so big with so many shops and bargains.

If you have an open evening while in Waikiki, take a bus or short shuttle ride to Ala Moana Center. Heck, if you have a little time, you can even walk there. It's a nice shopping mall with various types of stores; some are traditional some are more island themed, but what we really appreciated was a rather large and diverse food court. Some nights you just don't want to pay a lot of money for another dinner out. At this food court, everyone can get whatever they want for at least half the cost of eating at a traditional restaurant.

There seems to be a buzz of sorts around going to Ala Moana Center, and people seem to go there thinking that they are going to have a great day out, but seriously, it's just a shopping centre, and not an overly good one at that !
As other reviewers have mentioned, most shops are high end.
The layout of the place is weird, and not tourist friendly.
Nothing is easy to find, and info counters are harder to find !
The foodcourt area is quite good though, as is the free airconditioning.
Would I go back ?
No, not unless I really had to.

While it wasn't a bad place to wander around in a torrential downpour, almost every shop in this mall is very high-end and there is next to no maps so you're left wandering around a place that has parking where you wouldn't expect cars to be.
The food court was fine, but as far as I could see it was all chains- albeit not very common chains except Panda Express. Very weirdly laid out and maybe 5 stores that might interest an average, not-wealthy shopper. Nice Target, though.

This is one of the best indoor-outdoor shopping centres that I’ve ever visited. You can buy anything and everything here. From little pop up stores to large department stores. Fabulous food court, fresh produce. A fantastic place to spend many hours walking around or shopping. One of my favs in Honolulu.
