We loved our visit to Newport RI. Mark was very helpful on local advice and cooked a great breakfast, simple but delicious. Our room was very comfortable. Good location for walking in to the centre of town.

We really liked Newport and was one of the highilghts of our trip. It is a place that gives the impression of teeming with wealth. As a consequence staying at the Marshall was very good pricewise compared to a lot of Newport.

We were in the Snuggery and it was certainly that. But there was a lot of charm about it because it had a spiral staircase that led up to the bathroom which made it quite unusual. Being the first room at the top of the stairs, I feared it may be quite noisy with everyone coming and going, but that was not an issue at all. The location of the Marshall was very good because it was a nice short walk down to the main drag.

The room was spotless which was a testament to Mark and his team. Mark was an extremely affable guy who was able to provide plenty of info on locale. He also made a mean breakfast.

All in, the Marshall is aesthetically a very pleasing place to stay. Easily accessible to the centre of Newport it was an excellent place to stay. Go!!!

The Marshall Slocum is a small quaint B&B run by a young husband and wife team. They are charming, accommodating to all requests and the inn is clean and historic. If you are looking for a small charming inn, this one is for you. Down to the hanging swing on the front porch to the back deck where you can relax or enjoy your breakfast. Also parking on the property and a close, short walk to town is a huge plus. Would definitely go again. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

We had the dreaded room 6. It was far too small hardly room for our two bags. We also found the floor rugs and some of the decor a little 'weary' Toilet/shower ok. Breakfast was very good with other options provided if asked for. Host was able to provide great information about the area and things to do. Beer and wine were available but on two nights they had run out of beer. No air conditioning and on one hot night it was most unpleasant.

Room Tip: keep away from room 6!

Thank you for your feedback. We have fully remodeled this guest room this offseason, gutting the bathroom and adding new fixtures and antique oak flooring. All guest rooms have air conditioning throughout the warm season.

This was the first time that we had stayed in an American "Inn" - we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the service and standard of the accomodation. It is a family-run business and their attention to detail is obvious. From the personal and informative welcome to the quality of the furnishings to the freshly cooked breakfasts, they make excellent hosts and have got the balance just right.
It is less than 10 minutes from the waterfront and 10 minutes from the mansions.
We enjoyed the character of a top floor bedroom and the whole stay was a pleasant change from the larger hotels that we used during the rest of our fly-drive to New England.
Well done Mark!
