Owner description: Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

I’ve visited this house before and found it to be beautiful The house now been refitted to serve as the “mansion’s” event site The 2nd floor is now primarily special exhibits How disappointing!

This mansion is primarily used for events, so there are not many furnishings in the rooms. There are several rooms on the first level and only a few bedrooms on the second level. The rest of the second level is for traveling art shows. You don’t see any of the staff rooms or kitchen. While it is a beautiful home, if you are looking for the Newport opulence, I would visit one of the other mansions.

What a fabulously beautiful mansion. Self guided audio tour provided. Well maintained piece of history.

Simply amazing that anyone in America lived in such reckless splendor. But it was fascinating to tour the home guided by the excellently-produced audio device. I listened to every single extra story throughout the mansion.

While this is a stunning home, much of it was used for an art gallery. The entry is something I'd think to see in France. A well planned out floor plan. But I left feeling like a lot of information could have been given that wasn't. The view from rear ballroom windows is flawless.
