“Expectations exceeded - again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 February 2012

This was our second stay here in Santa Fe, and we were just impressed as the first. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have a great Southwest feel. The staff is friendly and accommodating , ensuring you have all you need. Don't overlook their charming little restaurant called Del Charro. It has very good food and drinks at a very reasonable price. I ahd the opportunity to meet the general manager, and could see his commitment to running a top rate hotel. We'll be back.

We drive past other inns/hotels to stay here on our way to Colorado. Just one block from the famous Santa Fe Plaza it has a lovely rustic charm. We love the beautiful flowers and Kiva fireplaces that fill the common areas. There are many shops, restaurants and chapels within walking distance.

The rooms are perfect with comfortable beds and amenities. The rooms with balconies are great to have your morning coffee and watch the Plaza "wake up". Be sure to request a room with the Kiva fireplace.

The full breakfast buffet that comes with your room is very good with a large selection and an attentive wait staff.

Del Charro, their bar/restaurant is so popular with locals that you may have a wait. Their burgers with homemade chips is worth the wait.

The reservation and front desk staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Room Tip: Free parking.

Pros - 1. Room was very comfortable. 2. The inn is beautifully decorated. 3. A great breakfast buffet as part of the room charge. 3. Good margaritas.

Cons- 1. Gentleman who worked the sherry & tea time was a bit of a snoot and not terribly friendly. 2. Wi-fi in room was not dependable and when I called the front desk they advised me to "look in the brown book in the room and call technical support" which isn't a helpful response. 3. Del Charo seemed to overcook everything and had exceedingly slow service. Burnt bread on the grilled cheese sandwich; tough chicken in the sandwich and the hamburger was over-cooked. Would have given the inn 5 stars but for the cons.

Dear Calabacitas,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. Naturally, I am delighted that you enjoyed so many parts of our Inn. You can imagine I am sad to learn that you also had some less than positive experiences.

Our wireless has been patchy at best for the past month or so due to some mysterious technical issues. Fortunately, we were just able to isolate them and make the appropriate changes. Though i don't enjoy learning that the Tea & Sherry fellow was a snoot and that the food in Del Charro was overcooked, I take the information in the spirit of constructive criticism and continual improvement. Rest assured that I have spoken to the Chef about working with his staff to be wary of overcooking the food, and if they accidentally do, not to provide it to a guest.

I apologize sincerely that a member of our staff appeared to be aloof. Our goal is to be "Your Home in the Heart of Santa Fe" which we clearly did not do at that moment. I will be personally sharing this review with the staff and working with them to impart our vision of "home like hospitality" to our guests.

Thank you again for taking the time to write a review and giving us a chance to know how to improve. I also appreciate the recommendation even with the constructive thoughts.

Sincerely,

Sam Gerberding

Very special place. The room was cozy with a Southwest design and very thoughtful touches. I was visiting the area with my teenage daughter and we both enjoyed our stay very much! Highly recommrended!

By far this was an incredible trip over President's weekend for my husband and myself. It started out by our booking the "Inn of the Governors Hotel". Conveniently located, restful, friendly, with ample free parking. The moment we walked through the doors we felt like we were at home. The lobby is warm and inviting. Everyone who works there makes you feel so comfortable. The staff from the General Mgr. Sam, the Bar Mgr. Michael, Frank and staff at reservations, the housekeeping staff and all the waiters and waitresses from the Del Charro Saloon which is connected to the hotel were so wonderful. Our room was spotless with beautiful and so comfortable bedding which made sleeping so enjoyable. Receiving a free breakfast buffet daily was great. They even offered tea and sherry with cookies daily at 4:00 pm. The hotel rooms has flat screen TV's and WIFI is available everywhere. Another great feature is a heated pool for those who enjoy a pool even in the winter. What you see on the internet is what you get and the Inn of the Governors is perfect. Only one complaint our stay was too short but that makes us want to return so much sooner to Santa Fe and stay again at the Inn of the Governors.

Room Tip: Any room would be a great room.
