“Cheap and yummy!”
Reviewed 13 June 2007

Del Charro, which fronts Almeda St. (and is connected to the Inn of the Governors, but definitely not a "hotal bar"), has a great atmosphere! The bar portion has a sophisticated western/saloony flare that seems popular with locals, and the outdoor courtyard, with heaters and a raging fireplace, is a fantastic, cozy place to soak up the Santa Fe flavor. Best of all, it is extraordinarily reasonably priced, unlike pretty much everything else in Santa Fe. For $5, you get 3 wine glasses worth of the house margarita, which is great. Appetizers like chips and yummy guac are $2, and entrees are all $5-$6. You won't be dissapointed with the tostado or BBQ chicken sandwhich. Only drawback is a pretty limited menu- 4-ish appetizers, 6-ish entrees and 3 deserts.

“Best place for satisfying hunger”
Reviewed 3 October 2006

This place is mainly for drinks. Locals hang out here for their margaritas. Outdoor seating (secluded from road with plants, has a roof) is always packed. Customers seem like they are having a lot of fun. Loud talk and laughter. Indoor dining area is quiter. This restuarant is connected to Inn of Governor's Hotel, so you will see guests walking by. All food is inexpensive here. Everything is less than $5. Mainly bar food, but portions are plenty. They are not making any profit from food. But from alchoholic drinks. We had hamburgers for $4. 50c extra for green chili. The cheapest place in downtown area if you are looking for a place to satisfy the hunger. They have other things like nachos, quesadillas, chicken sandwich, salad, etc. Nothing gourmet! I do not like the word 'gourmet'. If any menu has that word, get ready for a rip-off and mediocre food. Soft drink we had was too sweet, and they offered to bring us canned. They kept bringing more when our cans were empty. You cannot take any drinks out though. Alcoholic or not.
Location is quite centralized. Easy walk from plaza, Canyon rd and Guadulope st.
Clientele is above middle age in the bar area. You have to go in and walk back to outdoor area for younger crowd. It is first come-first serve. If you want to get a table outside, prepare to wait.
You will leave with a sense of your money got its worth.

“Del Charro -- we wanna go back”
Reviewed 23 May 2006

In Santa Fe for son's grad from St. John's last weekend, (still working on Florida time) looking for food & drinks on a weekday night... and desk clerk at Garrett's Desert Inn (a great deal downtown BTW) sent us to Del Charro. Great prices, great food, great local crowd, and they're open late ... a rare find on a week night in downtown Santa Fe. Try the amazing tomato soup... I will be trying to recreate it! Wish we had found it sooner, but very glad we did. We'll be back! Tell Julian hello from Virginia, Lannes and Kitty.

“Rude waitstaff”
Reviewed 15 May 2006

I gave this review two circles, not one, only because I have been going to Del Charro for years and this is my first bad experience. This last experience involved a waiter who ignored the table for almost 15 minutes. My guess is that he didn't want to "waste" his time with one person at a table when there were other groups arriving later with more per party. The floor manager's response was to back up her employee (even though he lied about the situation) while offering a free meal. No thank you Del Charro. You have lost this once loyal patron.

“Del Charro -- Great Local Bar”
Reviewed 13 October 2005

We accidently found this place in Santa Fe ... and we loved it. It's totally a local place and the only tourists are those that stumble in like we did. Order a margarita and you won't be sore. And order it in the tumbler. Great margaritas (although the best margarita we had were at the Inn at Anasazi). But back to this place. Cheapest eats in town. I don't think any item on their bar menu was over $6. Friendly bar staff. Also, three TVs are tuned into sports!!! Nothing fancy about this place, but we really liked it and the food was OK.
