OK, you have to understand we're landlubbers from Colorado and rarely get to enjoy messing around on boats, so this was a little intimidating from the beginning. Luckily the dismal weather forecast turned out to be completely wrong as did any doubts we might have had about sailing on the beautiful ketch "Sea Witch". There were only four passengers aboard on this particular day, my wife and I plus another couple, and of course Captain Rob and his able assistant Ann. Just as we couldn't thank them for the gorgeous weather we could not blame them for the absence of whales or stiffer winds. They did provide us with a splendid six-hour sail around the beautiful waters surrounding the San Juan Islands, though, and we saw plentiful seals and porpoise and dolphins and bald eagles. But mainly we valued the opportunity to spend a day of complete relaxation with time to sit back and reflect on this gorgeous coastal area, a rare treat for two landlocked Coloradoans. If we return to Friday Harbor we will do it again!
