My husband and I took a group of 11 to Bohanan’s for a business dinner on June 14. Our Uber driver had previously worked at Bohanan’s and he suggested that we cancel our reservation at another restaurant and give Bohanan’s a try. Boy, are we glad we did! We had a remarkable dining experience! The atmosphere, the food and the staff were excellent. We entertain for business a couple of times a year in different U.S. cities. Our experience at Bohanan’s in San Antonio ranked up there with better known restaurants anywhere in the country.
We began the evening with drinks at the bar while we waited for our party to assemble. The bar at Bohanan’s has a rich, old-world ambiance that made me want to linger. The bartenders were top notch and obviously knew their craft. I had a specialty cocktail made with vodka or gin, egg whites and raspberry (sorry, I don’t remember the name). It was beautiful, delicious and fun to drink.
When all had arrived, we took the elevator upstairs to our table in the restaurant. I was pleased to see a round table set for 11. I love round tables for group dining! Our server, Rick, greeted us warmly and told us the Bohanan’s story which set us up for a memorable night. Rick guided me in our wine selections and suggested that we focus on seafood appetizers since we should have steak entrees. Each of us was presented with a small plate with lump crab, sashimi tuna, and a large shrimp. Each was startlingly fresh and delicious. In addition, we ordered the sweet and spicy Kurobuta bacon for the table. How could that not be delicious? It did not disappoint.
Most everyone followed Rick’s recommendation and ordered steak for their entrée. My husband, who is not a steak eater, had the Alaskan salmon which he quite enjoyed, but it was the steaks that stole the show. We sampled several of the steak offerings. I had the bone-in filet which had a beautiful char on the outside and a perfect reddish-pink center. Each bite was a flavor bomb! Others at the table had the Wagyu filet, or a bone-in ribeye. Everyone raved about their steak and I heard several use the words “Best Ever.”
We capped off the evening by sharing some old-fashioned bananas foster, prepared table side. Not surprisingly, it was perfect!
