I was surprised by the number of pieces by the really great artists. Monet, Van Gogh, Rodin, Manet, etc, along with newer American artists. Too many to mention.

If you enjoy beautiful homes and grounds and art, this is a place not to be missed. Don’t expect a major art museum like you will find in Houston, Dallas, or Fort Worth. But there is plenty of art to admire, but with the added feature of a beautiful older home with wonderful landscaping. Best art museum inSan Antonio

This museum is well worth half a day when in San Antonio. I had never heard of it until a vacation to see the Final Four took me to San Antonio. It is housed in a lovely mansion with modern additions and surrounded by beautiful grounds. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of art and works by well known artists. Since it was a Sunday afternoon, I was also able to take a free docent-led highlights tour. Don’t miss the gorgeous patio!

This is an excellent small museum in a former private mansion (that has been expanded over the years), set in a large garden/park setting. The collection is small but well chosen and wide ranging, with additional traveling exhibits housed in a lovely contemporary addition. They also house the Tobin Collection which is one of the largest collections of theatrical design in the country.
