We were staying at the Hawthorne Hotel and stopped in the Tavern on the Green twice. The first time we met a friend for a cocktail before an event we were attending. Then my husband and I stopped by afterward to grab a snack. The bartender Allison not only remembered us but what we had ordered. The service was great, the room is lovely and the food was yummy. I have yet to find anything about the Hawthorne that I don't like.

Had dinner here with my mother during our weekend trip last fall. Loved the elegant old feel, and we were able to sit right near the big fireplace. Crackling fires on a hearth on chilly fall nights - we kept wanting to add logs to the fire but figured the staff may frown upon that! :) Our waitress was helpful with menu recommendations; we had a bottle of wine during dinner and Irish coffees after, and never felt rushed. Overall we enjoyed the entire ambiance. Can't wait to visit Salem again with my husband and take him here.

Went to visit the House of Seven Gables, after tour decided to eat at Tavern on the Green. We were seated at a table for 4 as there was 4 of us. Table of 3, and 2 tables of 2 were seated after us. All 3 of these other tables were served water and bread before my wife had to ask the manager if our waitress had forgotten us. She did, her excuse was that she was busy with the other tables. Finally ordered our food, as an appetizer I ordered buffalo wings, terrible, some were undercooked , it came with what they called blue cheese dressing, no carrot sticks or celery and I have never tasted blue cheese dressing like that before one taste and it sat there as it was not edible. Lunch finally arrived, my wife ordered a turkey sandwich and received a BLT, I know this was on purpose as she is the one that had asked the manager about our missing waitress. She did get the correct sandwich but by then we had finished our meals and she had lost her appetite. I would never go back.

Dear vckelly,

I sincerely apologize for the lack of service you received. As you can see from prior reviews, we get high marks for our food and service, but it seems that we were not able to do so with your party of 4. We do indeed not serve our wings with celery or carrots, but understand that undercooked wings are certainly not the standard we set. I am sorry as well that you found the blue cheese dressing not to your liking, as we have had the same dressing for years without any complaints. While we do our very best to avoid any mistakes from happening, please note that we would never do anything on purpose, as that is simply not a correct statement. If you feel so inclined, please give us a call, as I would love to have you back on us.

Regards,
Patrick Cornelissen
General Manager

We have been to this spot three or four times. Good reliable American food, nice atmosphere. Best to the Salem Green and across from the Peabody Essex Museum and other attractions. This is a solid option amid your visit to Salem. The hotel lobby area is very warm and is a nice place to relax as well.
