Attended a wedding at the House of Seven Gables. Everything went well and smoothly. That is never an accident. The reception that followed was also excellent. All of the vendors, food, bar, music, etc did a good job.

The history of the house & the people that lived in it, is quite fascinating & the guided tour is well for the $15/person entrance fee. While there were marking for an audio tour, we took the guided tour. There is quite a lot of parking, although probably in the summer it isn't enough.

Seeing the secret passageway & attic and other rooms is worth the visit. It helps bring the book more to life :). We didn't know what a secluded life Hawthorn led, so that was interesting also, as was the life of sea captains & what they brought back to the "New World.

Worth the visit!

We arrived to Salem in Sunday afternoon and had only few hours before heading off to Boston airport. I really wanted to do one of walking tours but they were only available in the evening. This museum caught our eyes and I’m glad we did it! Very historical place. Well preserved building outside and inside. We did a guided tour and it was in a small group and explained well all about the place.

The tour of the house was more interesting than we expected. Rather than just focusing on the story from the impact of Nathaniel Hawthorne, our guide was good at providing the entire history of the home, from the original owners to the present. Although the other homes around it are not original to the property, they are each interesting parts of Salem's history.

Our tour guide was very informative and educated abut the house and told us so many things we weren't aware of. Don't miss this stop in Salem, and don't forget to take the "secret staircase".
