“Beautiful grounds, room areas need work”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2012

Stayed here mid-April due to location and its proximity to family activities. The hotel lobby, pool, and landscaping were beautiful. Hotel has a gorgeous location at the foot of the Catalinas, where you can look up and feel a part of the mountains themselves. The rooms and hallways, however, are in need of an upgrade. We stayed in building 3, first floor, and had a mini-suite. Our room faced north to some very nice desert landscaping, called "saguaro view" by the kids, and was in close proximity to the pool. The space of the room was nice for our 2 adults and 2 kids: along with 2 queen beds, it had a large sitting area and walk in closet. We never felt cramped. The room itself was clean, but unfortunately, felt a little tired: ceilings were low, walls had "dings" and peeling paint, and the carpet looked a little ratty. The room served our purposes just fine, but it did not have a "resort" feel to it at all. Hotel seems to cater more to business meetings than vacationers, just my opinion.

I had a hard time rating this hotel. I would rate the grounds, pool, and location as 4 stars, but the room as only 3.

Room Tip: If you are staying in building 3, which has the mini-suites, the valet parking is complimentary! Wh...

The location of this hotel is really nice, it backs against the bluffs and is a ways outside of Tucson. There are a lot of pools, which is especially popular with kids. There is a slide, which is pretty fun for kids and adults. The room was big and the bed was very comfortable. Mine had a balcony that faced the mountains, which was a great view to see in the morning.

However, the feel of the place is fake if you are looking for the natural desert beauty. That just might be what you get at a golf resort though (I do not golf). I did not love the bathroom, as the oversized door made it awkward to get in and out. The shower itself did not have much water pressure. They also have signs everywhere telling you not to bring in any food, which is annoying especially when breakfast is not included.

The grounds and views from the property are wonderful, but the rooms I experienced were very tired. Our first was a pool and mountain view that had badly worn and stained carpet, squished bug on the wall and even stains on the lampshade! After complaining we were upgraded to a mini suite that was spacious but still very worn. Fixtures in need of replacement, cheap wood nailed to the front of the vanity, WORN carpet, squshy beds, just not what you would expect from a Hilton Resort. The quality of the rooms were very lacking for the price. We chose this location for quality even though is gave us a base further from attractions and were sadly let down. Warning: THERE IS NO RESERVED PARKING FOR GUESTS! WE HAD 3 WEDDINGS AND OTHER MEETINGS ON ONE DAY! WE HAD TO HIKE TO THE ROOM FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RESORT(nice view from lot since we were practically in the mountains!!!!)

Room Tip: Building 4 offers pool views that have mountain backdrop to the south-stunning. Views to the North...

The hotels grounds and public areas are in a very pleasant state. The hotel rooms, are an entirely different story. The lobby is impressive, as is the expansive pool area - a true delight! The rooms are a but frumpy to say the least. Older style lighting, furnishings, and bathrooms that needs a bit of T.L.C. payed to them.

One thing that many people should know is that parking at the hotel can be hit and miss, often times having to park away from the guestroom to drag your baggage closer into the actual location of the room.

In summation a good spot to rest and enjoy the surrounding sights - If you are looking for a hotel to be stuck in doing work from, this might not be the place for you!

We recently stayed at the El Conquistador so I could attend at conference that was held at the hotel. This property was a model for customer service. The staff from the front desk, valet, restaurant and housekeeping all were models of how a hotel should function. I am sorry that I do not remember names, but I can not think of one interaction that was not welcoming, pleasant and friendly.
We were lucky enough to stay in a casita, which was well appointed, clean and comfortable. This hotel is situated at the foot of the Catalina Mountains therefore the views were fantasitc.
The only "down-side" was the very steep hill that needed to be tackled to get to the lobby, restaurant and conference rooms. Just remember that if that hill looks too daunting, a quick call to the front desk will send a cart to get you to the lobby.
