The Baja Cafe is the sort of amazing local and unique place you want to visit anytime you are in a new city! Expect a long wait on weekends, but you can lounge in leisure on one of the many odd lot lawn chairs as your appetite builds (we waited 45 minutes on a Saturday around noon for a party of 6).
The location is nondescript - basically in strip mall, but there is indoor/outdoor seating (with heat lamps) and dogs are welcome which is a nice touch. The inside feels and looks like a disco’d out college bar, but you are here for the food (and drinks). How can you go wrong with the Yosemite Sam Bloody Mary which comes decked out with jalapeño bacon AND habanero sausage - and that’s just in your drink!
I tried a few dishes, and the Wyatt Earp was my favorite - chorizo tamale cakes, pulled pork, bacon, roasted chilies and veggies - all topped with two perfectly poached eggs and an avocado hollandaise... hungry yet? Your arteries may not be able to handle frequent visits, but I highly recommend you wear your stretchy pants and belly up at the Baja Cafe.
