You can visit this attraction and not be required to spend any money! You can choose to make a donation or buy something from the gift shop, but there is no entrance fee and the tours are free. We enjoyed the church decor, the fact it is still in use, but many of the parts are very old. This is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Mission San Xavier is not necessarily a good site to visit in rainy or very hot weather. You need to walk outside to move between the church and the various parts of the grounds.

Had no idea that this architectural masterpiece was in the middle of nowhere. Reminds me of the cathedrals in Europe. So filled w artwork.

Knowing little about missions, we arrived here in early March, and saw that a free tour was just starting. The tour lasted an hour, and the docent was excellent, walking us through the museum and church. Truthfully, the tour made the difference between a quick look around and an enjoyable learning experience. Great for those who love history and those interested in hearing the story (still ongoing) of the mission’s restoration. I believe the tour is offered twice a day, at 9:30 am and 2:30pm. But check their web site to make sure of the times on the day you are visiting.

We went early morning and took a 9am tour that lasted close to an hour. Our guide gave us sufficient information so we could appreciate and understand the history and development of this complex. It was worth the visit.

San Xavier mission is beautiful. The recent renovation and restoration have made this historic chapel and grounds even more spectacular. It is very moving to go into the chapel and light a candle and pray. On the grounds, which are on a Native American reservation, you can get authentic indigenous food. Worth the drive from Tucson.
