It is a distance to get to - but the views are wonderful We ate at their restaurant and the $4.25 for 2 slides of pizza was a value.

If you are not familiar with a cactus desert this place will blow your mind. The variety and size of the cacti in a natural environment is wonderful to see. Bird and insect life abound the mammals and reptile are also there but harder to see.

This place was great. Most of it was outdoors so come prepared for the heat and sun. There were many drinking fountains on the grounds (which was good). We took our 2 year old grandson and he had a blast. There were many animals there so he called it a "zoo". He especially enjoyed the "reptile" house - with all the snakes. The prairie dogs and mountain lion were also a hit. I especially enjoyed the hummingbird house. There were so many varieties of these birds. It was great when they would "zip" by your head. We were there about 4 hours and we think we saw most of it.

I'm not a zoo person, but this doesn't feel like a zoo. There is not a elephant to be found, or a penguin, or monkeys. I felt they kept with what is found in the desert or surrounding mountains - so yes there is a bear.
It is outdoors and some parts have little or no shade and you are in the desert so its hot during the day. And then the animals look for shelter so not easy to find.
I would go again, as I liked learning about the cactus and animals in the desert.

Being from the Midwest, I don't often get to travel to Tucson, but every time I do the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum is somewhere I must go! It showcases the beauty of the desert...its animals, plants and beautiful landscape...in a perfect blend of museum/gardens/zoo. It is very well maintained with interesting animals in their natural habitats, facilities and gift shops are A1, and personnel are extremely helpful and friendly. This is a Tucson GEM and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about the thriving desert and its inhabitants! I can't wait to return...
