Description: The history of McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants began when Bill McCormick purchased Jake's Famous Crawfish Restaurant located in Portland, Oregon, and brought the more than 100-year-old landmark back to life. When asked the secret of how he revitalized a restaurant on the brink of closing, McCormick says, "I like nothing better than being a good host." Part of the managerial talent McCormick tapped was Doug Schmick, a management trainee. The two formed a partnership in 1974, creating Traditional Concepts, a precursor to today's McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants. In 1979, they opened the original McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant in Portland, Oregon. Since that time, the company has expanded to more than 80 restaurants across the country. The combination of an open imagination and a respect for tradition are what makes McCormick & Schmick's the classic and successful business that it is today.

Although we stayed across the street, we were curious about experiencing some Providence history plus eat excellent seafood. By visiting the Biltmore, we were able to experience both.

We were fortunate enough on an late afternoon Saturday walk in to get seated right away. Our waitress was extremely friendly and offered many helpful suggestions. We had the Shrimp Kiss to start....only four jumbo shrimps, but wrapped in bacon and delicious. I had the stuffed salmon with lobster bisque mashed potatoes . . . out of this world.

We were there for business, but the ambience would be perfect for a romantic date.

Afterwards, we lingered in the Biltmore lobby, gawking and taking pictures.

If you don't stay at the Biltmore itself, you must make a special trip and eat at this restaurant at least once during your stay. Highly recommended.

I have gone to McCormick and Schmick's restaurants around the country and have found them to be acceptable. The food here is okay, but not as good as others. The service can be very slow here. I've eaten here 4 or 5 times and some of the servers are really slow.

During a family weekend in Providence we are here as it is located in the Providence Biltmore. Very nice breakfast with a variety of choices and good breads. Added an order of the cinnamon & sugar Sister Schubert rolls -- yum!

Good wait staff helped ensure all our needs were met.

We ordered room service for our valentine's day celebrations in March. Our eggs were well done and cold and the fruit looked like it was a couple days old. We should have went somewhere else but we liked the connivence of not leaving our room. We went down for happy hour for cheap apps and drinks, which was a way better experience. There was a really happy and cheerful girl behind the bar, cracking jokes and taking care of us; I wish I got her name!
