We stayed in the Lodge for three nights while visiting RNP. Overall we had a great stay, but there are some pros and cons:
Location:
Pro - convenient to both Estes Park and RNP while not being right in the middle of Estes Park crazy.
Con - located on a busy highway with a lot of traffic noise - kind of diminished the sounds of the lovely river that flows through the park
Cabin:
Pro - Absolutely charming decor, comfortable beds and linens and exceptionally clean. These are definitely older cabins but it is obvious that great love and care have been taken to maintain them to high standards. It feels as if you are staying in someone's home, rather than a typical rental cabin
Con - Unfortunately we arrived during a heat wave which obviously is not the owners' fault!. While we did not expect AC in a mountain cabin, for some reason the Lodge was just unusually HOT even considering the outside temperatures. It seemed as if no amount of open windows created an adequate cross breeze. To the owners' credit, they had fan/coolers in each room. While they did help a little, they were also LOUD - as in bring ear plugs if you use them at night. Just something to keep in mind if you are traveling in the hotter parts of the year and are heat and/or noise sensitive. Fortunately you don't come to this area to hang out inside your cabin, so it wasn't that bad, but it was an issue.
Staff:
Pro - staff was extremely warm and welcoming
Wifi:
Pro - they have wifi
Con - it is slow as molasses and sometimes it didn't work at all. Normally I wouldn't even care about wifi on a trip like this, but were dealing with a dying family member across the country and desperately needed to be in touch. Cell service is spotty in the mountains, so I was really hoping for reliable wifi.
Overall this is a beautiful place to stay in the RNP area. There is a super playground if you have kids and we saw an elk one morning walking through the grounds. If you want a break from the generic hotels and condos in the area, it can be a good choice.
