Description: Chef and General Manager James Martin, along with brothers Barry and Brian Jessurun of The Vanilla Bean Café in Pomfret and Dog Lane Café in Storrs, opened 85 main in 2005. 85 main was created with goal of offering fresh, quality seafood and steaks along with locally grown produce in an atmosphere one might expect to find in a "big" city. The emphasis is on fresh ingredients and cooked-to-order menu items. The interior of the building was completely remodeled, creating a warm, inviting and casual dining environment. During the warmer months, the outdoor patio is open for dining.

Husband and I have eaten here twice recently after a long hiatus. It’s been really good both times. Had lunch here on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago and again today. I got an assortment of oysters from the raw bar on the first visit. They were really good, but with the exception of the Cotuit oyster, were very small. I was disappointed. Today, I got 2 of the vineyard oysters, which were large and briny and a colossal shrimp. The hand-cut fries are to die for, some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Their corn and clam chowder with bacon is so good I have to get it every time. They have a good wine selection at reasonable prices. My husband had the fish wrap but prefers the pulled pork wrap, which he raved about. We shared the house salad with ginger dressing on one visit. The vegetables were beautiful and artfully arranged but I’ve had better ginger dressing. The chicken wings with blue cheese dressing were big and tasty, but if you want spicy, ask for hot sauce. I had the flat iron steak today, which was surprisingly tender and cooked to perfection. But temperature was just warm, should have been piping hot. The passion fruit bombe was de bomb! Delicious, and the blackberries were ripe. To die for! A great restaurant in an unexpected place.

Tried this place a few weeks ago before a show and was generally impressed. Service was a bit slow and prices were a bit high for the area, but the food was good.

We stopped for dinner here on our way through. The place was hopping, even late on a Saturday night, but we were seated immediately. Unfortunately our waiter was less than stellar. We waited for at least five minutes before he showed up and when he did we had a hard time hearing him, as he talked very softly. He took our drink orders and disappeared for another five minutes. One of our party didn’t order a drink the first time, as she was in the restroom, so she ordered when he came back and immediately disappeared for yet another five minutes, even though we tried to order food at the same time. (We also tried to order the drink for the missing party the first time he was there, but he charged off so fast, that we couldn’t). Finally when all the drinks were in order we could order food. Three of us had burgers of various types and the fourth had mushroom ravioli. Prices were okay, maybe a bit more in the expensive side. In any case the food was very good, so we were happy about that. But our waiter never came back to check on us, to see if the food was okay. When we were done, it was a good fifteen minutes before he came back to take our plates. Basically while the food was good, the service made us debate whether we would go back.

Always visit 85 main when shopping the antique shops. They have a outdoor seating area which we love once the weather begins to turn warmer. Large, diverse menu from fish and chips to burgers to sushi. My wife and I started with the cheese board which was delicious and then we both had the grilled salmon salad. Terrific light lunch until we finished with cheesecake ala mode. Oh well, you, only live once.
