After tenting around the rainy Puna area, we were desperate for a place to dry off for a few days. We were able to book a room at the last minute -- the evening before we arrived. Bob and Mary offer a very warm and friendly vibe. They provided us with suggestions of restaurants and what to do in the area (we checked out several of their suggestions and were all well worth it!). Breakfasts were fabulous -- complete with fresh fruits, guava juice, home-grown Kona coffee, and whatever Mary decides to bake in the kitchen! The geckos provided some good after-breakfast entertainment! The rooms are small, but comfortable, and have a nice private lanai for sitting. Yes, there are roosters nearby that will likely wake you up at 5 am, but hey, it's nothing compared to Kauai, and why wouldn't you want an early start to your day in beautiful Hawaii?

They keep chickens, rooster, and geese....if you are a heavy sleeper or can turn off your hearing aid, fine....but otherwise it is too much constant racket for me.

We got a last minute room here and were very happy we did. The innkeepers were knowledgable and friendly, with advice about what to see and do. A great full breakfast was provided. There's a nice sitting area, private lanai for each room, and a view of the ocean. We'd return in a minute. The geckos visit after breakfast and will lick the fruit juice from your plate if you let them. Mary even picked our papaya right off the deck.

Room Tip: Two rooms are identical in size and the third is much larger. With friends traveling, that room wou...

We booked this B&B for 2 nights (Hibiscus Suite) on Febr 4 and 5 2012, but we were lucky to have the possibility to stay another night. Bob and Mary are such friendly hosts. Bob gave us a map and a book with ideas to spend our days. Also he suggested some nice restaurants. If you are a jazz-fan, you are at the right place, as Bob has a huge collection of jazz-music.Mary is a great cook, makes delicious breakfast and is very interested in her guests. The room was not big, but very comfortable and the view from the lanai was very nice! We will definitely come back!

Best regards from The Netherlands

Stayed for 2 days upon arrival. Rooms clean, comfortable; not particularly roomy but very adequate. Enjoyed the lanai and the ocean view. Beds comfortable. Friendly & helpful hosts. Breakfast very good - fruit, breads and coffee to get started and then followed by pancakes one morning and excellent quiche the next. Especially appreciated the stash of supplies: boogie board, snorkel mask, beach mats, coolers, sunscreen and bug spray as well as the microwave, refrigerator and tea and coffee. There was a room for guests to use outside of the bedrooms, which would be nice if someone wanted to stay up later or you needed more room. Hosts were attentive yet we were able to have our own space and it felt very private. Nice location - close enough to town and good food, yet able to explore other areas. Would be happy to stay here again. Breakfast was a leisurely affair so if you want to take off early to explore, you might not get the same yummy food. Only a couple things slightly less positive: We would have liked to have coffee available earlier in the morning. Also, although you have a private lanai, the sound carries well from the room next to you. No TV, but didn't miss it or want it.
