Description: Abundant and beautiful California Wine Country in the Northeast Heights. Welcome to "Savoy"! A sun-filled, unpretentious but sophisticated, wine-friendly restaurant. As you walk into the dramatic high-ceiling entryway, you are moved in all directions. To the East you have a frosted view of the tasting room, loaded with fresh flowers and walls of glass-encased wine. To the West you get a glimpse of the lounge bar leading to the vine-covered patio. Light, open and airy with butter-colored walls, dark wood and black & white photography of wine country all come together to create an elegant yet surprisingly comfortable atmosphere in the main dining room. The dark and contemporary edge to the room is offset during the day with an abundance of natural light from large windows and three strategically placed skylights. That oven is our culinary focal point for the exhibition kitchen.

Friends had recommended Happy Hour on the patio so we gave it a try. Unfortunately we got trapped near a large party that was very loud, making it impossible for anyone around them to talk to each other. On top of that we had a server that didn't seem to know what "service" means - she couldn't answer questions about the drink list, wasn't ready to take our drink order for about a half hour, and disappeared for long periods of time. So we moved inside to the dining room and had a better experience. The food was creative and well prepared. Our dining server was professional and efficient. And we enjoyed some nice wines from the by-the-glass list.

In fact, negatively impressed. Date night. First time for dinner at Savoy Bar & Grill. Looking forward to a nice relaxing dinner. So, maybe it's a personal problem, but the hardwood chairs were like sitting on concrete. Tepid water (no ice). Missing a water glass at the table setting. Lovely candle holders filled with coffee beans at all the tables, but none were lit. Crab cake entre was nice, but could have been fresher. Personal preference but we didn't care for the southwest corn trimmings. Maybe it's a New Mexico thing, but if you've ever tasted a real East Coast crab cake you might be disappointed, especially considering that ours came with a chunk of shell. Luckily we have a good dental plan an no teeth were broken. Nice wine selection. Two types of bread with garlic butter--good, well, one of the breads was actually cooked and the other we made dough balls with because, well it was mainly dough. My wife had the flat iron steak and reported that the sauce failed to flatter the dish. I had the shrimp pasta. From my single experience with this dish, I'd say it should be titled room-temperature shrimp, a few pieces of orecchiette pasta--maybe 18--smothered in an actually rather nice sauce but spoiled by the dozen other flourishes and bitter micro greens that confused, complicated, and annoyed my taste buds, yet cleverly concealed the flavorless shrimp. Piece of advice, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. More is not always better. Some people actually like to taste the flavor of the food. Of course, that means you have to have good ingredients. Piling on makes me suspicious and my suspicions turned out to be justified. Thus in an attempt to top it off and rescue our expectations we tried the chocolate hazelnut torte. This was a muti-thin-layer torte which caught us a little off guard a minute, but ok you can do that. It's also ok to somehow infuse some moisture and flavor--both of which were lacking. The cappuccino was...ok. The service from everyone but our waitress was...ok. The service from our waitress was marked by inattentiveness. Perhaps there were more important things to do. Two stars. I've had better food, better service, and paid less. Oh, and speaking of paying... so when they came to collect our unfinished plates, we were asked if we wanted take away boxes. Sensing our thoughts about the food from our in-unison negative response. We were asked if we did not enjoy the meal. We said no, and were told they would inform the chef. When the waitress brought the bill she said the chef comped down the bill. Ok...so think about that a minute. Neither the chef or waitress asked what we didn't like about the food. One would think that in an effort of continuous improvement, or an effort of understanding the nature of the complaint, that some basic troubleshooting would occur. Thus, I'm left to believe, well I could put this many ways, but I'm left to believe they really don't care.

We go to the Savoy because the food is good and they have live music on Saturday nights. Last Saturday we arrive and virtually the whole of the patio is occupied by a large party celebrating some event. Apparently they arrived at 4pm ish.

So the band are due to commence around 6pm on the patio and people arriving for the music have nowhere to sit but in an area semi open to the elements and it is pouring rain and blowing. So no choice but to move inside and we cannot see or hear the band. The large party have not come to see the band and that is quite obvious. So no good for those people wishing to see the band and not good for the band who have no or very little audience.

I talk to the manager and all he can say is first come first served!

I have been here in the past and not been overly impressed. The decoration is dated and the food is demure and conservative. My last visit, however, changed my view. There is no getting away from the traditional, slightly stuffy, environment. The food was totally perfect and, not only perfect, but supremely original. They have, at last, decided to go with the times, to mix winning flavours, to offer truly spicy dishes, to try and constitute an adventure rather than being like the dining table of rich granny. Bravo.

We have been to Savoy many times and have enjoyed it for business and personal meals. We have never been disappointed by the food or the service.
