Great happy hour deals!!
Food was good but this place charges a price for what you'd pay a lot less for in a less touristy town. They mixed up our meals and brought out the wrong dishes for two out of three of us which we weren't too worried but they didn't offer any drinks or discount for the mistake which was a little surprising since the third person had basically finished their meal when the correct ones came out.

We had the veggie pizza and it was ok at best. Service was slow that day, waiting 25 mins for dessert - honestly think they accidentally forgot to put it in. The environment was nice - like a lodge with a fire place and bar. Would go back if other options were closed.

The staff is friendly and I love the alfresco seats. Though outdoors, they definitely had enough heaters out in the front.

Drinks were fairly priced and just $6.50 during happy hours. I had the seafood chowder and it was reasonably ok not fantastic.

Overall nice environment.

Stopped off for a quick lunch in the warm before heading to the hot pools on a drizzly franz day. Service was friendly & quick, food tasty & filling, the boys enjoyed watching the footy on the big screen while we lunched & it was good that they had the sound off so we could watch but not have to listen. Sat easy by the cosy fire, saw others braving the outside enjoying the big heaters they have to make it bearable. Always a reliable place to have a good feed if it fits your budget. Nice to enjoy it during the quieter lunch time rather than the busier evening service.

As one drives into Franz Josef one cannot miss this restaurant located right at SH6 while coming in from Greymouth. The whole design and layout is so beautiful. The staff are equally efficient, courteous and helpful. The food is awesome although there is no dish that I specifically recommend.

Be sure to use the happy hours time that runs from 4pm to 7 pm I guess. While we visited the place, it was very cold in Franz Josef and the restaurant has heaters placed overhead to keep you warm so one does not mind sitting outside even if it is cold. They serve some good local wine.
