I am a motel skeptic, I find them seedy, the Mt Cook View did not do anything to dispel my impression.
The rooms were tired, the pillows hard and there was a generally fusty fragrance in the rooms, which were full of bluebottle flies when arrived. There are sheep in the field next door and windows should not be left open by housekeeping. The windows had the remains of previously squashed flies over them which didn't help with the view!
Plus they added a 2% credit card fee to the bill when we arrived. In this day and age I find a bit of a cheek, especially when it is not mentioned anywhere on the booking that this will be done. Why not just include it in the booking??

Mt Cook 'View' would have lived up to its name if the weather had been clear, this would have been some compensation.

The location and views from the motel are amazing.
The hotel itself I found very basic and from later examples in NZ it is evident the whole motel experience can be done so much better. This struck me very much as a minimum effort endeavour.
Upon arrival the staff member was clearly waiting to check us in and get away a fast as possible. There were no pleasantries or effort to make us welcome, just functional process. Very much in contrast to our experience across the rest of New Zealand

Very comfortable stay here. Extremely large rooms and large bathroom. I love having enough space to spread out and repack luggage! Well equipped kitchenette. Friendly hosts with wonderful local information. Great laundry facilities. Amazing view and location. Fantastic comfortable bed. Highly recommend Mount Cook View Motel.
