Owner description: Escape for a day to beautiful Kawau Island, home to a pristine wildlife reserve surrounded by the calm clear waters of the Hauraki Gulf. Kawau Island Super Cruise takes you from Sandspit, just a short drive North of Auckland city, to follow the Royal Mail delivery route around Kawau - the longest mail run by watercraft in the Southern Hemisphere. This is the perfect way to take in the Island's many stunning bays and gain insight into what life is like for the 70 or so permanent residents who call the road-less Island home. Learn about the history of the Island and take in amazing views while your experienced skipper points out significant landmarks and sights of interest. Watch Gannets and other seabirds on the hunt for their lunch. Don't forget to keep a close eye out for Dolphins, Penguins and other interesting sea creatures that might show up for a visit. Arriving ashore at Mansion House Bay there is plenty of time to explore your beautiful surroundings. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy, visit the historic Mansion House and stroll through the stunning subtropical gardens alive with native birds such as Tui, Kereru and the cheeky Weka. Proud Peacocks and shy Wallabies call the gardens their home so keep your camera on hand to catch a unique photo opportunity. Enjoy the numerous walking tracks that beckon you to beautiful beaches. Along the way, discover and explore ancient Maori Pa sites and the ruins of a seashore copper mine once worked by early settlers. Pack your swimwear and some snorkeling gear in summer to explore the crystal clear waters teeming with marine life. Return Cruise Price: $68 Adult (16+) $34 Child (5-15 years) FREE Preschool (0-4 years) Please note: The Department of Conservation charges a small fee on the day for entry to the historic Mansion House ($4 adults, $2 Children, Under 5s free) Departs Sandspit Wharf 10:30 am daily - Returns from Mansion House 2pm

This was an excellent experience. The cruise was very relaxed and informative. We opted for the lunch included and it was scrumptious. This was well worth the money.

This was our third boat trip to Kawau Island using Kawau Cruises from Sandspit, just a little way out of Warkworth, N.Z. On this occasion we were accompanied by some old family members and the four of us had a great day... we pre-booked our trip on-line and printed off our own tickets, telephoning the Cruising Company to book the actual travel date. We got to Sandspit by 9.45a.m., parked our car in the pay car park (the charge for the day`s parking was $12), then we walked the short distance to the Cruising Company`s office where we booked on to the boat and as we were a little early (for the 10.30a.m. crossing) we walked across the road and enjoyed delicious coffee and freshly made scones at a lovely little café. The ferry boat left the jetty at Sandspit at 10.30a.m., it was not full on this trip (we were travelling mid week and during school-term time !) and the crossing to Kawau Island took about 1.5 hours. We did not get off the ferry boat when we got to Kawau Island, preferring to stay aboard and travel around the Island as the ferry boat did deliveries of post and provisions to many of the little jetties dotted about the Island. That further trip took about 1 hour and it was fascinating as the captain of the ferry boat, on this second leg, gave a very interesting commentary in real time of Kawau Island and its history. The ferry boat then came back to Kawau Island (some people on board the ferry boat indulged in lunch which could also be pre-booked) and we got off and spent a few hours exploring the Island. We walked up to Lady`s Bay, there was very limited access to the wonderful little beach as clearly the recent storms had caused damage to the walkway down to the beach, and then we returned to the wharf and enjoyed a lovely freshly cooked and full lunch at the little café by the wharf... the food was excellent and the service very pleasant and homely. We then walked around the outside of the big old house (the old Governor`s residence) which had closed at 2p.m. that day, and at 4.30p.m. we caught the return ferry boat back to Sandspit. All in all it was another (our 4th :-) !) excellent day out on Kawau Island, a magic little Island... and my wife and I always enjoy the ferry boat trips to and from the Island as we view the wonderful coastal scenery on both sides of the boat. Well done Kawau Cruises, another excellent day and another four very very satisfied customers ! :-) :-) :-) :-)

We where a group of 9 got grab one discount tickets for the mail run with lunch included so already a good start . Phoned to confirm our booking , services was excellent gave clear and precise information . Day of departure went to ticketing office and again service was exceptional waited an hour to board the boat greeted by the captain got seated and exactly on time 10.00 am we departed . Beautiful clear sunny summers day couldn't have asked for better . While cruising to our destination we got a commentary though not overly interesting it was informative enough to listen to . Visited a few inlets of the island either just to have a look or to drop a delivery off to people staying on kawau . Final destination was Mansion house where those who where not having the BBQ lunch departed , then we set off again to go to the back of
the Island while the lunch was prepared then served . lunch was fairly simple but satisfying ( steak or salmon with a salad and bread bun ,cooked to perfection I must add )and came with a free drink of your choice (wine , beer , or soft drink ) . Headed back to Mansion House where you where given free time to do what you wished swimming diving off the wharf trekking the many trails within the reserve going inside the Museum - Mansion house ($4) until the departure time of either 2.00 or 4.30 pm .We left a 2.00 pm which was more than enough time for a swim and bit of a walk around the grounds of the house . If intending to walk the tracks the later departure time would be needed , Overall everyone one in the group thoroughly enjoyed the trip and where impressed by the scenery and service and talked about it for hours after . Definitely a recommended thing to do

Locals here, but we never managed to do this trip until now. We got our discounted tickets for the Mail Run from Treat Me and decided to go during the Christmas holidays. It’s a great and relaxing day out! We didn’t do the BBQ lunch, but brought our own and had a picnic on Kawau Island. The Mail Run takes about 2 hours before you arrive at the Mansion House on Kawau Island around noon. You then have two options of return times, and we took the latter at 4 pm, giving us 4 whole hours on the island. Plenty of time to picnic, explore and a swim with an ice block as a treat from the cafe before we left.

The run goes up and down the west coast, stopping at various places to drop off mail and other goods, including a brand new refrigerator! The captain will point out interesting facts and at the end there’s a little detour to the copper mine to give you a view from the ocean side.

Well worth doing!

Not been yet, but wanted to talk about exceptional service when we needed to cancel on the same day we should have gone and they re-booked us on another day very cheerfully without charge although not needing to do so.
Hats off to their friendly staff!
