We really enjoyed our day trip on the Royal Mail Run ferry to Kawau Island. We booked our tickets at the Visitor Information Centre in Warkworth. We seem to meet the most helpful interesting people all day The captain and crew were most informative and friendly.A lovely ferry ride then a few stops with mail and groceries at various little bays, learning about the early pioneer history of the copper mine and the Cornish and Welsh miners. Then the extraordinary life of Gerorge Grey. We got off at Mansion House and explored the gardens and had a picnic in the company of a beautiful, friendly peacock. We could have opted for a barbecue lunch on the ferry but took our own lunch. We regretted this when we realised there was a fish option.Next time!.We had ice cream from the little cafe and a swim and snorkel before heading back. It was heavenly and just what we needed.
