Pension Taitaa was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip. I arrived on Tubuai not having a place to stay and they took me in with open arms. This pension is new, so the rooms are newly renovated and clean and they have a great lounge area for guests where you can watch tv, play mini billiards, ping pong, and have all the self serve coffee, tea, and water you want. The pension is on a huge garden property with fragrant flowers and all kinds of fruit trees such as lychees, avocados, papayas, and mangoes. The location is close to hiking to mount Taitaa, 5 minute walk to the market and a small restaurant, and only about a 5-10 minute walk to the lagoon.
The dinners were simply unbelievable, not only were they delicious and varied, the presentation was superb, providing 3 course dinners (appetizer, main, and dessert). The meals are always fresh and organic, the breakfast jams and juices are all hand made from fresh fruits. I've been to French Polynesia 7 times, but these were the best meals I've ever had there. The reason is because the owners have some formal training in the culinary arts with one being a sous chef and another a bakers apprentice. I would pay the price of the stay just for the meals alone!
The owners Nari and Nathalie always were so friendly and kind to me, making me feel welcomed and at home. I will not forget their kindness nor the time talking and getting to know each other after dinner. I came as a client and left as a family member.
PS the corasol and pineapple juice Nari makes is the best and ask him to show you his traditional dance moves too!
