Comfortable, Convenient & Clean

Review of Bridgeway Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Oct 2011
While traveling in the Avalon Peninsula, we stopped in Placentia at the Bridgeway Hotel. It’s located right in front of the lift Bridge and is a bit of a utilitarian looking boxy building. This 12 unit newly renovated hotel was clean, comfortable and surprisingly quiet, for being right on the main street, we didn’t notice any noise from the roadway. We had a nice ocean view and enjoyed a very nice sunset directly out our window. Staff were pleasant and efficient and the room rate reasonable. For a tiny town, there were 2 convenient restaurants within 1 minute walking distance from the hotel (and the food was good!) No real drawbacks but to the owners, I’d recommend a few of those little things get finished from the reno, such as somewhere to hang your coat i.e. behind the door, a deadbolt or secondary lock on the door (not that you’d actually need it in this town – it seems incredibly safe!) and to switch the brand of the general cleaner being used. The cleaning product is the same smell I remember from when I was a kid, the janitor’s using in elementary school to clean up after sick kids and it’s the first thing you notice as you walk through the door. It’s an institutional chemically odour, not overpowering but there are much nicer things available on the market.
Finally, breakfast was a big fridge full of bagels, several types of tasty breads, yogurt, fruit and on the counter, several cereals are available, it’s serve yourself. You shouldn’t leave hungry. The other patrons were families in town for a wedding and the friendly mood was welcoming. I’d have no hesitation to stop and stay here again while in transit.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front may get a nice sunset view over the bay.

We stayed at the Bridgeway Hotel in Placentia on our trip through Newfoundland. The location of the hotel, a larger scale B&B was right at the bridge. The hotel was very new and the room was wonderful. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was very big. Breakfast was excellent with many choices. The staff was very helpful in helping us find a place to eat in town at a late hour. In the morning the staff was OK. Breakfast is self-serve but good. Overall I would recommend this place.

We stayed 4 nights at the Bridgeway. The view is awesome, The hotel and it's amenities reflect the great friendliness and cleanliness of Newfoundland. My wife and I celebrate our 50th anniversary in the place of our 1st home. I was stationed at Argentia. The staff were so helpful, polite, and friendly. The room was always very clean and fresh. I would certainly stay there again, and would recommend it to my friends. The hotel has wireless internet available, and an elevator for the handicapped. The bed was very comfortable.

Room tip: The second floor Northeast corner room has a great view, and is quiet.

I stayed at the Bridgeway for 1 night last night - it was such a modern, clean and welcoming place to stay! It looked recently renovated. I would recommend the owners create a website so that more visitors can find them and be able to experience how nice this place really is! I wish I could have stayed many more nights. The breakfast was great too.

Stayed at the Bridgeway August 13th to the 18th and we were glad we stayed at the hotel. The staff was very friendly, the rooms very clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the continental breakfast was great to have each morning before heading off to our daily adventures. I was told that the hotel was recently renovated and it clearly showed. It was nice to have a restaurant across the street and next door to the hotel itself.

Room tip: Suggest having deadbolts on the room doors

What a hidden gem, hotel and rooms were clean and modern, beds were very comfortable, continental breakfast was plentiful. The staff were kind welcoming and accomodating, we booked last minute as our travel plans changed and stayed for two nights. This place isn't in the guide book yet, but once it is there it should be hopping and reservations will be hard to come by... 5-10 minutes to the Argentia ferry. Good food at the pub next door, fantastic board walk on the water front within walking distance.

Room tip: Don't worry if you forgot something or need something the staff will help you out!
