“Surprisingly quiet”
Reviewed 13 August 2011

My wife, two daughters (11 & 8) and I stayed here recently on a trip through the area on our way to Yellowstone. Our stay happened to be during Sturgis Bike Week, and it was amazing how quiet the room was. We were on the first floor, next to the office, and didn't hear a thing all night. Room was pretty standard for a Super 8. We found it to be clean and comfortable, and the rate wasn't bad considering when we were there. Continental breakfast wasn't bad either.

The only negative is that they need a different system for staffing the front desk. . . upon check-in, I stood and looked around for someone to help me for several minutes, and ended up calling the hotel from my cell phone to get someone to help me check in. Same thing on checkout. . . nobody there. Finally someone showed up as I was walking out the door after just leaving the room key on the desk.

Having said that, both of the folks at the front desk were very friendly and accommodating - even allowing us to leave our car in the parking lot until after lunch time so we could walk into town and do some shopping.

Check-in here was very speedy! The room was on the small side, but ours had the sink outside of the bathroom, which is nice when we were sharing it with another couple. The beds were more comfortable than some hotels we have stayed at. Even being during the Sturgis Rally the price was completly reasonable. It was very close to Mt. Rushmore. There is a mini mall right next to it that has a DQ and BBQ place. We ate at the BBQ place, I don't know if they were stressed with all the people being there or what but the service was horrible. The free breakfast the hotel gives you is very small, more of a snack to hold you over til lunch. They had some fruit, bagels and mini muffins. But when we got there they were all out of cereal and did not fill it back up. Also had some danish pastries but that was it. Very small room in which to eat as well. However, overall I thought it was a great value and since it was close to everything, I cant complain much.

Room Tip: Make sure and shop around, I book this through my credit card and got a members discount, and was ab...

This Super 8 was up to the same quality level of the average Super 8, but had the unique advantage of being only a couple of miles from Mount Rushmore, and appeared to be one of only two last minute lodging options (as in around midnight). For these reasons, we paid the higher than average Super 8 rate. The motel wasn't able to accomodate our request for a roll-away bed, but was otherwise acceptable for a night's sleep. One will likely spend significantly less if they stay in lodging in an area not as close to Mt. Rushmore.

Room Tip: Lodging in this area appears to sell-out easily; booking in advance recommended.

Have stayed here two years in a row. This year was much better than last. Very clean. Our room was updated, breakfast was perfect (2 boys ate a lot). Best place to stay close to everything. A+.

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor, a bit noisy, but I was tired.

This was by far the worst hotel we stayed in on an 8 day road trip from Texas to ND & through SD & Iowa. The rooms weren't that nice (especially compared to the Super 8 in Brookings, SD) it was the most expensive of the hotels we stayed at, but provided the least. The breakfast was pretty pathetic. There were very few options & very limited quantity. And we got down there at 6:30 a.m., I can't imagine what it was like at 8:00 when more people were up. The breakfast area also only sits about 8-10 people.
