“A memory of a lifetime”
Reviewed 30 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Our family of five rented this magnificent property in beautiful Begur in June 2016. It'll be a memory for a lifetime, and sure to be continued for years to come. The property served all our needs including a clean and well tempered pool, a modern kitchen and other appliances (WiFi, washing machine, satelite TV etc). Parts of our visit we accomodated four further guests, with no problems. The house holds four bedrooms, four bathrooms and have three showers, and there is room for eating both outside and in.

The beautiful town of Begur is minutes walk away, with many high quality restaurants as well as a well preserved history. We spent most of our days at the many local beaches. Sa Riera, Sa Tuna, Calella de Palafrugell and Aiguablava are all well worth a visit! Remember to bring your scuba gear. The sights are amazing.
We also visited some of the local shopping, with one of Springs largest wine stores being minutes drive away. The adjacent and fairly new mall sells live shell fish and other delcacies.

Our week in June will be missed comes autumn!

“Nice villa and village with some disappointing aspects”
Reviewed 28 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We stayed at Villa Iris in May 2015. We had looked for a villa well set up for our young family near a beach within walking distance of a village. Villa Iris largely delivered but we did experience a few problems we hadn't expected. I wished we had known before we booked, it struck me that's the purpose of this site hence this review.

Good points:
- Villa is really well equipped for babies and toddlers: high chairs, toys, cots, cutlery. This was really useful and very well thought out by the owner.
- It's a short stroll up the hill to the charming village of Begur, and a short drive to several nice beaches.
- Lovely view out to the sea and the north
- Our daughter (3yo) loved the trampoline

Bad points:
- The wifi didn't work. Repeated calls to the management team who came round but couldn't fix it. It would come on sporadically for an hour or so in the evening not at regular times. This was really frustrating as we'd planned to use it for maps, researching local area etc. We had to use international roaming on phones and ipad which added unnecessary expense to the holiday.
- TV didn't work. Management company fixed this after a few days.
- Neither of the child proof gates to the pool functioned at all. The handyman fixed one but left the other. We fixed this ourselves using a screwdriver we found in the house to remove and re-attach the latch so it would fix to the gate post. Despite fixing the gates there remains a toddler-sized gap between the gate and balustrade of the balcony, on the other side is a 10 foot drop to a hard floor. Again, not an issue if you supervise at all times but I thought this was a safety issue I would have wanted to know of before we booked.
- Swimming pool very cold despite being advertised as heated. To be honest, wasn't a surprise as this is generally the case in May even with 'heated' pools in European villas.

Overall it was a mixed experience. The villa is lovely and many of the points above will not bother other guests but thought I should write this in case others book this villa for the same reasons we did. Given the wi-fi, TV and child proof gates did not work I did not feel the villa was delivered to the specification advertised. These were all things which would have caused us to book elsewhere had we known about them before booking. I would have expected things like the wi-fi and gates to be checked before the villa was rented out and any problems informed to us.

The owner was responsive by email, referring issues to the management company who could not fix all of them. I asked for a partial refund of our rental cost given the issues above, he simply did not respond to my request. I left it a month before writing this. He also did not even say thank you to me for us fixing things with the villa ourselves or accommodating 4 visits of handymen and the management company during our week-long stay, which I found rude. On all other points, he was helpful and courteous.

“Perfect Villa for families”
Reviewed 9 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We were two families with kids from the age of 4 to 9, who stayed here for two weeks this summer. We found it to be the perfect villa for a vacation with kids. Not only is the villa extremely practical for families in the sense that it provides high chairs, cots and gates/fences where needed, thanks to the nice pool and trampoline, the kids were entertained for hours. We enjoyed the fact that all the furniture and fittings of the villa seemed so fresh. In the bedrooms, it felt a bit like staying in a five star hotel, with super comfy high quality beds. The kitchen and living room were both equipped with everything we could desire, and the nice Weber grill down by the pool gave us plenty of options on the nights we stayed in instead of eating in one of the many nice restaurants in Begur. The location of the villa is simply fantastic. Situated in a quiet area, with a beautiful view of the bay, it is still just a short walk away from the center of the charming centre of Begur. After having visited 7-8 different towns on the Costa Brava, Begur is definitely our favourite. The medieval castle creates a perfect backdrop for winding streets and alleys which are full of great restaurants and bars - all completely free of the tackiness you can run into further south in Spain, and the shabbiness you can find if you cross the border to the French Riviera.

We loved the balcony and the many terraces. Throughout the whole day, we had several options, in or out of the direct sunlight, and always with a great view of the valley and sea.

Of all the beaches in the area, the closest, Sa Riera, is our favourite. It is within walking distance for adults, but if you are lugging a lot of gear or small kids, I would recommend a car or the shuttle bus. The beach is small, cozy and never too crowded, Still it offers some nice restaurants for lunch as well as a convenient SUP and kayak rental. The somewhat coarse sand is perfect, it stays on the beach when you leave, and does not hide in your tower like fine sand typically does.

All in all, we feel that this villa left nothing to be desired for the two families who went there, and we would definitely love to come back here for our next trip to Spain.

“Extraordinary!”
Reviewed 13 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Our week in Begur has been extraordinary and we do not want to leave. First of all the house was everything we wished for and more. We travelled with young kids, 2 and 4,5 years, and the house was perfect for our needs. The house has baby cots, high chairs, plastic dishes and a safety port on the top terrace for the stair down to the pool area and the kids were thrilled to play in the pool and the on the trampoline. We have had warm and nice weather and the pool has been warm and the airconditioners in the house have come in handy at night! As for us adults we could not ask for a nicer setting than the stunning view of the ocean and the beautiful landscape of Costa Brava that we have been able to enjoy from all parts of the house. The house is nicely furnished and is very well kept. We also need to point ut the close proximity to the town of Begur. A five minute walk away and such a wonderful little town with great restaurants and nice boutiques. And with no cars our kids were thrilled to run around. Make sure to have a look inside the restaurants as they might not look much from the street but many of them has the best outside terraces in the backyard. The owners have been very helpful and as we were here they had a really good and stable wifi installed which has been a great add/on. We will be back!
