Description: "The secret to beautiful food is using the ingredients in their most natural form." At Chef/Owner Marla Adams'Atlanta Restaurant, and with Chef Justin Kurtz now at the helm, life imitates art in a remodeled 1916 bungalow, nestled between the historic Inman Park and Poncey-Highland neighborhoods. You'll feel like a foreign film star as Babette's Cafe brilliantly brings Isak Dinesen's story of food, grace and community to vivid and delicious life in a rustic, European setting. For twenty-four years, Babette's Cafe has offered the flavor of stepping into a restaurant that is tucked into the French Countryside, making diners forget that they are just minutes away from downtown Atlanta.

We just returned to Babette's for the first time in a few years. Not sure why we stayed away so long. The food, service and ambiance were all perfect. The cassoulet was the best I've found outside of France. Great wine list. We'll be returning soon.

We only go out maybe once or twice a month, enough to have favorite spots, not enough to have been "everywhere". But we do like coming back to Babette's. I like seeing waitresses who have worked there "forever". I like the seasonal and use they offer, and have come to know that the food will be delicious, whatever we order. My wife had the Trout (first weekend for their fall menu), and I had the braised short rib, which was excellent. I started off with the fried oysters, which tasted good, though I would say it was not as good as our entrées, I guess just because the oysters got lost in the dish. We had little room for dessert, but shared a single scoop of homemade salted chocolate ice cream, just enough to finish the meal off. We consider their corkage fee of $15 very friendly, and often will take our own bottle.

Six of us had a pleasant evening here and we enjoyed the cocktails as well as the atmosphere. The cheese plate and the tempura fried cauliflower were shared around and everyone agreed they were delicious, as was the crusty baguette.

The mussels were served in an odd, almost flavorless thin sauce that no one liked; the tuna crudo was a tiny portion so not shared around, but was okay. Filet mignon came with crispy onion rings that were perfect, but the accompanying brussels sprouts were hard and undercooked; the sauce was cornstarchy and barely warm, the mashed potatoes were not hot or creamy. Lamb chops were blackened to the color of charcoal. The veal piccata was a very small portion for a big price. Chocolate cake dessert was pretty but nothing special. Our waiter, David, was excellent.

The room was full, with every table occupied on a week night, so the place is popular. It is not inexpensive so check the wine list and the menu online before you make your reservation. You can park across the street in the big lot for free, or you can valet if you like. There is a tiny bar, seats only about 6, so not a place to linger if the place is crowded.

We always enjoy our dining experience at Babette's. Don't fill up on the French baguette because the sea scallops and the cassoulet are especially good. The sauce used with the lamb is overpowering making the dish a disappointment. The side order of cauliflower was delicious. You will definitely savor the cherry almond tart. Service is impeccable. Bon appetite.

Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic food, and, fantastic service! On a recent visit to Atlanta, we went to Babette's Cafe for dinner. From start to finish, one of the best meals I had in Atlanta. This place is a hidden gem!
