This was my 3rd visit to this hotel, and 2nd time this year. I had brought my 61 year old mum to stay this time, as we were visiting family who live in Malta.

I have stayed in the San Antonio before, down to very basic hotels in Malta, and for what i paid to stay at the San Pawl i cannot fault it much.

Food was a bit basic, breakfast i didn't like but that is down to me wanting a full fry up every morning, and most meals come with a sauce, and not a big choice of salad or vegetables. But did have three different mains each lunchtime and evening, so did not go hungry. The staff that we interacted with in the restaurant were very friendly, and there was one morning i couldn't get out of bed, as i have bad back, the young gentleman in the restaurant was very helpful to my mum to arrange food for me in the room, and offered assistance throughout the day if i required it, which i found to be very good. I wish i got his name, as he deserves a recommendation or a staff of the year award.

The room we were in was a superior room, and was nice and clean, spacious. Only one english channel on the tv, but i don't go on holiday to watch tv. Shower was good, however the shower head was a bit wonky and didn't work correctly but was still powerful enough to have a shower. The view from the room did look onto a residential street, we got the sun for quite a few hours on it so it was good. The fridge tho could do with a defrost as a big chunk of ice was hanging on it.

The room was cleaned every day if needed, and the cleaners were very friendly.

The bar this time was outside by the pool, unlike inside in May, but made no difference to me as it was warm enough. The staff at the bar were very nice and friendly, served very quickly all the time and by all the staff, even the female member of staff that others have complained about. I was that impressed i even tipped the bar staff.

Reception staff were friendly, some didn't react to you straight away but anything i asked or needed they helped me with.

Internet is not free, but i knew this and still i paid for the cards, 15 euros for 2000 mins access was fine, just as long as you remembered to log off after you used it to not waste any time.

One thing i would have liked is the indoor pool to be open all year round, and you could even make it adults only or something during the summer months. But i knew it would be closed as i had been to this hotel before.

As i am making at least 2 trips to Malta next year, at least one of them will be to the San Pawl.

Room Tip: Get a superior room.

Spent 7 nights in this hotel on AI basis in October. Rooms are clean and spacious, we where lucky to have an extended balcony looking onto the pool area. Staff are mainly very nice with one or two superb. All inclusive food is actually very nice in comparison to other hotels and they do make an effort to change up the menu breakfast excluded. The maids are fantastic, every day they change towels and make sure the rooms are cleaned they are ever so polite too. The only thing about this hotel we didn't enjoy was the entertainment and it was not just because it was aimed towards older quests it was because it wasn't aimed towards the guests at all. They seem to invite local dance groups and karaoke groups in who take over the who entertainment area, meaning that guests are left watching, spirits are the weakest I have ever had too. That said the hotel is a great little budget hotel in a nice enough resort with decent food.

Room Tip: First floor pool view stands a good chance of extended balcony

Dear Scott H,

I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the San Pawl.

Your nice comments about the cleanliness, the food and the staff will be passed onto each department.

We will obviously look into your comments about the entertainment when planning this for next summer.

We do hope to see you again in the future.

Kind regards

The room was facing / over looking appartmentsl, room very small for 2 people, no space to put anything. very tatty and dated decor. Food very basic Not the most helpful of staff. The only bar was outside on the pool deck, I have a bad back and after sitting on plastic seats for an evening it was not good. I or my friend would never go back....

Dear Janet H,

Thank you for your review,

It is a pity that you were not happy with the view from your room and the size of the room. The hotel is situated in a residential area and therefore there are no view from the hotel rooms. We do have rooms overlooking the pool and superior rooms which are larger. Clients can choose to pre-book these rooms or alternatively upgrade once at the hotel.

It is a pity that you did not advise one of our staff about your back condition as they would have gladly provided you with a different chair.

Kind regards
Carol Burgess
