Monument Avenue has been the location of a lot of controversy lately. It’s the location of many powerful statues which commemorate Civil War (Southern) heroes. As the population is becoming more attuned to issues of race, people are starting to question whether statues honoring slave holding leaders of the Confederacy are appropriate to adorn our fine city. Marches take place there with enthusiastic participants on both sides of the issue.

At other times, this beautiful street is ablaze with fall color and is one of the most beautiful streets I’ve ever seen. And at Easter, the annual Easter Parade is held to which most attendees wear their fanciest Easter bonnets, dogs included!

Monument Avenue is one of the most beautiful and historical streets in America. Amazing architecture, breath taking monuments, gorgeous trees and landscaping, but you better visit it soon if the liberals have their way all of the Confederate monuments will be removed or defaced. This is a very emotional subject for those Richmonders like myself who have family that died in the civil war, while fighting to defend their state from northern aggression.

I have driven down this road more times than I can remember. Few times I have parked and looked around it is always interesting. Lots of very pricey homes and office areas. The monuments are very historical and interesting info on them. The brick roadway is always interesting. If your visiting RVA it is a must see!

A son of the south who, as a child, walked to school past the Confederate Home in Austin, TX monument Ave made perfect sense and is somewhat comforting. It is really a spectacular civic art collection. Get there before political correctness disassembles it all.
