This place on the 17th Street Farmers' Market is my home pub when in Richmond. It may be small, but it has A LOT going for it.
The firefighter theme and decor is the first thing you notice (I learned that a 'halligan bar' is a firefighter's tool, and they have one hanging on the wall) - hard to miss the half-a-firetruck that makes up most of the back wall behind the bar!
Very friendly, neighborhood pub vibe, but all are welcome. The staff is always friendly and accomodating, and there's a really eclectic crowd that frequents The Halligan.
You wouldn't think it, looking at the size of the kitchen, but the food is very, very good. Great bbq and wings, and they make their own pickles, which are worth the trip by themselves, as far as I'm concerned. Make sure to try the corndog bites, too.
Given their size, there's not a lot of beers on tap, so you're not gonna have a big craft beer experience here. There are plenty of places in Richmond to do that, but not many places to have the sort of experience you'll have at Halligans! Whether you're having a drink after work, a weekday lunch, or just hanging out on the weekend, you want to give this place a try!
