Alfasteinn consists of a main house and (currently) two separate chalet-style "cottages". The accommodation is comfortable, and Agust is an excellent host. We stayed five days, during which he acted as our chauffeur, tour guide and chef, providing us with the perfect introduction to south-east Iceland and all it has to offer, including horse-riding, hiking, hot pools and history, not to mention glaciers, volcanoes and puffins. "You ain't seen nothing yet" could be Agust's motto - we really enjoyed the opportunity to see sights that would have been inaccessible to us as independent travellers. And we are very much looking forward to coming back!
A brilliant stay with the helpful and dynamic Agust and his lovely family who all pitch in when needed.
We followed his recommendations and had great days travelling into the Interior and onto the Westman Islands. We were self driving in a hire car but Agust routinely offers a full package including airport pick up , accom, guided tours etc.
The modern house is a beautifully built with wood and a turf roof - best of all worlds. Rooms very warm and comfortable beds. Food also excellent; lovely salmon etc.
Wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Thanks again Agust, Jim Jane Emma and Harry
I was a bit skittish about staying in a guest house - sharing bathrooms and mealtime. But, I would do it again, and hope to. Lovely place. Felt like we were visiting an old friend.
This place, which does not feel like a hotel but more like a very cozy home, is perfect not only for couples but also for all big families. With a warm welcoming, good service, big breakfast buffés and the best dinner in a long time, we really felt like home. Just outside the house you have the icelandic horses, a jacuzzi and if youre lucky you even have the perfect view for seing the northern lights.
We all loved it at Agust's warm and homely big guesthouse. It was the perfect introduction to Iceland and we were very happy that we were staying in the beautiful countryside rather then in the city. We stayed in two cabins in the garden and my son stayed in the guesthouse which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We really enjoyed a violin concert Agust took us to on New Year's Eve and also the most amazing crazy fireworks! He took all his guests to a lovely restaurant, a bonfire and then a hilltop to watch the fireworks at midnight. It was a great New Years Eve and a great stay over all .
We hired a car and drove ourselves but you can also ask Agust to collect you and take you on tours. He provided many useful suggestions to places to visit, an interesting and useful insight into Iceland and the most lovely breakfasts. We had some great dinners there too by prior arrangement - and the most delicious cake. We loved Agust's home, his friendly welcome and his beautiful horses! We hope to return there soon.
