“Unique and Convenient”

We love Pensione Nichols. It is on !st Avenue just up the street from Emmett Watson's Oyster Bar and The Pink Door tow of Seattle's most fun places to eat. The Pensione has lovely rooms which are lit by windows or skylights and while one shares bathrooms, there are plenty of them to share and we have never run into anyone else or ever had to wait for one. Breakfast is lovely and served in one of the most beautiful rooms overlooking the water. We take the light rail from the airport to the last stop at Westlake and walk the few blocks to the pensione. The folks who work there are incredibly friendly and helpful. The french press coffee and delicious breads and fruit set you up for a perfect day wandering around the Public Market or walking up to Capitol Hill.

Room Tip: We love the two front rooms on the top floor. They have large windows looking out on the street and...

I love this hotel in many ways. It is not a cookie cutter place. It has tons of character, it's in a great neighborhood, there is a resident dog (last time I was there), has an amazing view from the common room, nice staff, and interesting people tend to stay here. On the down side, the breakfast is just OK (coffee is great), the beds can feel old and/or uncomfortable, the rooms with windows are noisy, on the flipside some rooms have no windows (most have skylights, I think), and along with all the character comes a bit of grit. Bathrooms are always clean (they are shared). For the price, I wouldn't call it a bargain for what you get. You have to want an experience that isn't mainstream. Allen Ginsberg used to stay here when in Seattle… that sums it up in a nutshell!

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for one of the interior rooms.

We had not tried a pensione type B&B but this was nice. Very easy to find, use the recommended parking garage if needed. Right next to the Pike Place Market, easy walking to downtown, monorail access to Space Needle, walkable to the harbor ferries. Nice view of harbor from family room and as noted, she served the most wonderful breakfast of fruit, coffee cake, great coffee and teas, wonderful wonderful, best we had in Seattle/Portland trip.

rooms were small and hot with no access to the AC controls. there is no tv. this may be ok, but they should let customers know beforehand that there is no tv--not in the rooms, not in the lobby, not anywhere(some people like to watch the news). the breakfast is not a full breakfast--just fruit, cereal and toast. it is in a good location downtown and is inexpensive for the area--but that is the only good thing i can say about it. also, it is a 3-story building with no elevator, which is tough when you have 2 weeks of vacation luggage to haul up and down the stairs.

I stayed here for 3 nights for a get away with my oldest friend. I now feel like I have even more friends, from all around the world. At breakfast each morning we sat with people at the tables and learned why they were here and where they were from-paris, australia and boston, to name a few. what a warm and wonderful start to the day. The Pensione is so cute and a little hideaway right in the heart of the city. Out the front door there is amazing shopping, food, the pike place market, and flowers...there was never an issue using the shared bathroom, although we got a sneak peak at one of the suites, to die for views, which I will book when I return to seattle one day.
Thank you to the staff for making our getaway feel like a little break from reality and oh so special!

Room Tip: the outside rooms with the picture windows let you really experience the city, a little noisy , but...
