The actual collection isn't that exciting, and at $29 each to get in, its expensive, but saying that, Art is very subjective, and everyone's tastes are different, what i did love here was catching the final day of the Victorian Radicals exhibition, which was truly amazing.
You need not visit the museum to shop the museum store - which was filled with many unique, diverse, and beautiful items for oneself or for gifts. They have creations from featured local artists, such as a collection of one-of-a-kind lamp shades currently on display. Do not miss.
Even when I didn't live in Seattle, I visited this museum every time I came here. I've been a member for all these years (maybe...50 years?)
We enjoyed the tranquil and open nature of the well-organized Seattle Art Museum. The museum had interesting collections of porcelain, European and Islamic art, African art and costumes, and modern and classic art pieces. Most interesting was an extensive exhibit of ceremonial costumes and other items from the Indian tribes of the northwestern part of the state. The special exhibit of photographs by Zanele Muholi titled “Hail the Dark Lioness” was most impressive.
We really enjoyed the casual atmosphere on a late Thu visit. Not ony is this a really good art museum, staff are very friendly and helpful, and we managed to see an artist event (really good).
