We stayed at Villa Blanca for the first night of a weeklong trip. After a drive through some cloudy winding roads (but exciting!), we arrived at a beautiful hotel and were greeted by a friendly receptionist. The hotel rooms are small bungalows throughout the hotel's grounds. The rooms are simple and rustic, which adds to the charm of the resort. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, while 2 for 1 happy hour was a nice touch to bring the guests together for some mingling. We did the guided night hike, which was led my a funny and well-informed guide. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun.

For those wondering - the cloud forest is cloudy! You won't have panoramic views because of the clouds, but staying in the cloud forest is a unique experience that I'd definitely recommend. We couldn't have picked a better hotel for our first night in costa rica.

It took quite a drive to get to this location. It is very out of the way, which is nice if you like some solitude (I do), but not so great if you're looking for night life. The best feature of ths hotel is the restaurant. I ate three meals plus the buffet breakfast while I was there. The food was incredible. They grow their own veggies so be sure to try a salad, one of the vegetable soups, or a vegetarian dish. I tried their vegetarian enchilada (I think that's what it was), and it was as good as any meat dish I have tried. The fish was fresh and delicious.

The rooms were nice enough. I would describe it as rustic. I think they could use a bit of updating, just paying attention to detail a little more. For example, the back door to the patio was stuck and took quite an effort to open, then I couldnt get it closed again. The bed seemed a bit old, as did the chairs and desk. But I assume try we're going for that old, quaint feel, and it just isn't my style.

If you are looking for peace and serenity, you will really like Villa Blanca.

This place may not be everybody's idea of vacation as there is no beach and often the sun is covered by clouds, However if you are looking for a unique and mystical adventure this is for you. We did the nighttime nature walk which I highly recommend as we saw the commercial red eyed frog, and so much more including a beautiful owl at the end. The staff here goes above and beyond. The food was all local free range chicken and steak definitely looked forward to meals there. The included breakfast was a huge Buffett with omelette and the whole works. We also found it very relaxing to do the spa and massage treatment. We took advantage of a peaceful yoga session on the grounds which is on top of the mountain. The clouds and sky were clear that day revealing forgoes lush green as far as the eyes can see. They arranged tours to the volcano and waterfall gardens it was very inexpensive and highly informative. Begin or end you're trip to costs rica here!!!! You won't regret it.

This place is a unique setting, in the middle of nowhere, up in the clouds. We were only here one night, but enjoyed it immensely. The night hike with a true naturalist was a nice experience. Dinner in the restaurant was the best meal we had in Costa Rica. All our entrees had wonderful flavors and were perfectly prepared. Great wine list and the knowledgeable waiter recommended a reasonably priced malbec that was excellent with our dishes. Breakfast buffet the next morning was excellent as well. Yes, it is a little pricey, but very reasonable considering the remote location. Rooms were fine, in the rustic mode, but large and clean with nice large jacuzzi bath.

Beautiful site, but a bit remote. The guided tours on site are well done and enjoyable, but I would skip the other tours, as you can do them from other sites closer. The staff was friendly, the food was good, the grounds are well kept and easy to self-guide. The cloud forest is beautiful but a bit clammy - still warmer than Chicago in February! The fireplace in the room gives a warm cozy feeling. My only criticism is the site and rooms are romantic, awkward when you're a 30-something traveling with your same gendered friend. (No thanks, we'll pass on the couples massage.... ewww!) Two nights and one and a half days were plenty to do the guided tours and relax at the spa, but we were ready to move on to the Arenal Volcano. A great place to meet up, as my friend arrived on her flight 6 hours after mine.
