This was our first time on the Big Island and renting a house. We are a family traveling with grandma and young kids (2 and 4) so we needed the space.
The house is very kid friendly - nothing for them to break with minimal furniture and no clutter. The garage had boogie boards, snorkel sets, beach bags, sand toys and even a stroller. My mom and daughter enjoyed picking mangoes right off the tree. And my husband really enjoyed BBQs in the Oceanview yard. You could see the cruise ships - the views were spectacular! What we loved most was the proximity to the main stores (Safeway, Costco, Walmart, Target) and to Ali'i Drive (the tourist strip) for restaurants and shaved ice.
Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to rent this house again. It was clean, had great views, no major problems, nice furnishings and perfect location!
Our host was very hospitable. beautiful accomodations, use of beach towels and snorkel gear, beach toys cahirs etc. called us a couple of times to ensure everything was to our likely. It could not have been better. Kailua Kona side of the side is the dry side and central to a lot of activities.
The Island is bigger than you think and driving to the volcano or the observator will take you a while but well worth it--- beaches off of route 19--Kekaha Kai State Park--were outstanding.
great family vacation
