First trip to the Big Island and this resort was a gem. Located within easy walking to shops and restaurants, but having your own kitchen to take care or breakfasts and relaxation. Best enjoyed with a car to enable venturing further afield to supermarkets and other stores, and of course to visit Volcanoes National Park.

If hills do not worry you then try and get a villa higher up the hill for a better view.

Room Tip: Higher up the hill and closer to the pool is better

What a fabulous first trip to the Big Island! This resort was in a great location as we could walk to town every morning to visit the wonderful farmers' market. We enjoyed the time we spent on our lanaii and had delicious food every day. The resort had lots of on site activities and we participated in some, like making our own lei The conceirge service was outstanding and we are so glad that we went to Mauna Kea, Volcanoes National Park and went whale-watching at Spencer Beach. The island is big so you do spend a lot of time driving to see everything. The beaches we visited are beautiful. Also go to Waipio Valley. It is worth the hike to the bottom to touch the softest black sand beach in the world! Loved the resort and the trip!

This vacation was a long-awaited family trip. I’ve been to the Big Island a couple of times prior; however, this was the first time for my family. I recall seeing this resort on my previous visits. This trip provided my first stay at the Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort. I reserved two units and was equally impressed with both. Guest services worked diligently to get us two units very near to each other, as the resort was nearly sold out.

What a fantastic place! The units were phenomenal with all of the comforts of home, and then some. The furnishings were new, earth tone and complementary to the resort grounds. The property has the most beautiful foliage; the layout and design of the resort are amazing.
All employees encountered were quite friendly and eager to lend a hand. The property loans bicycles and locks for day use. We borrowed bikes and rode to a number of beaches along Ali’i Drive.

Kona Hawaiian Resort is one of the most impressive properties I have had the pleasure of staying at. The location is an easy drive/walk to all that Ali’i Drive has to offer. I will not hesitate to return to this property in the future. High five!

Welcoming and restful, close enough to town to walk & far enough away to be quiet. Lots of on site activities. Quick service if ant problems. I would go back in a heartbeat, loved it.

This resort is fairly centrally located on Alii Drive. The resort is beautifully landscaped, with palm trees and flowers everywhere. There are also plenty of geckos around. It is quiet, and feels secluded, with an old Hawaiian village theme. It is not on the ocean, but directly across the road from the ocean, with distant ocean views from some of the units.

There are some accessible beaches if you walk either way from the resort along Alii Drive. Kona "town", with touristy shops and restaurants, is about 10 minutes walk away,

The units are 2 bedroom 2 bath; we had a comfortable amount of space, even for the 6 adults and 1 year old in our group. The lanais were large and wonderful, and while in the unit we spent most of our time there, for meals and relaxing.

During our 1 week stay in Kona, we prepared most of our meals at the resort, taking advantage of the well maintained barbecue grills. There are some feral cats that hang around the resort, looking for food.

For groceries and liquor, we usually shopped at one of 2 KTA stores; one about 10 minutes drive south at Keauhou, and one about 5 minutes drive north on Palani Road. At both locations there is a cluster of other shopping and restaurants.

The pool area at the resort is very nice, but there seemed to be a shortage of lounge chairs, given the large number of units at the resort. Also, one of the 2 pools was out of commission during our stay, so the remaining pool was extra busy.

On Sunday afternoon, we had an enjoyable afternoon of pupus and jazz, just up the mountain at Jackie Rey's.

Even though we have been through a number of Vacation Ownership presentations before, we reluctantly agreed to meet with a representative, to hear an "update" about the resort. The presentation was supposed to last 45 minutes to an hour, and they gave us their "no high-pressure" promise; what a bunch of baloney! The activities discount card you receive from the concierge is likely not worth the 1/2 day you will lose while waiting for the sales agent to stop talking so you can leave! This review would be a 5/5 if not for the Vacation Ownership presentation.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor unit, if you can handle stairs. The elevated view, and additional privacy ar...
