Wonderful place if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place surrounded by nature. The hotel staff is small but people are very hospitable and devoted to their work. The hotel restaurant offers an interesting combination of local and gourmet cuisine with very delicious and elegantly presented meals, freshly baked bread
and home made ice cream that deserves trying! The private parking is definitely a plus in a town like Melnik where parking spaces are very limited.
Special thanks to George and Desi for the excellent service as well as to the Chef for the great food!

Room Tip: Room with a mountain or river view

Over the last two weeks we stayed three times in the hotel. First, we accidentally found in on our way to Greece and spent a night there. Liked it so much that we decided to book another night on the back to Sofia. Our initial excellent impressions were reconfirmed. So, three days later we went back to Melnik for a third time, now with friends.

I can honestly say that the place is excellent. Service, location, accommodation were all first class. It will be unfair to compare in to Ritz or Marriott, but this is the best family hotel I have seen in Bulgaria. And the kitchen is really excellent. Not only the food was great, but was presented in a way and with finesse that you can rarely find in Bulgaria.

I hope that the hotel will manage to keep that level of service when clients multiply. Best of luck!

Me and my husband had very pleasant stay in Rechen Rai. The location just outside of Melnik town is superb with a great view of sand pyramids in the middle of the nature. Our room was clean, however I was surprised the bed was not fully made and we had to put a duvet in the cover ourselves. Later out I found out this seems to be a standard in Bulgaria - you get an option to either sleep under the duvet or duvet cover only.
Reception staff was very nice, helpful and provided recommendation for day trips.
What was a bit dissapointing was a breakfast. You get served breakfast and you can only chose one meal and one hot drink. There is no juice, watter or small buffet available, so my husband ended up with one fried egg, piece of ham and some cheese for beeakfast. When we asked for additional cofee and croissant, we found out at the check out that we are being charged for that. This is the only reason for lower rating, otherwise it would have been 5. ;-) I'd recomend Rechen Rai to set up small buffet with range of fruit, muesli, pastry and cold drinks as well to satisfy their clients.

Just outside of Melnik town on route to Rosen monastery is a new well constructed hotel with ample parking. The chef who is probably classically French trained served us a perfectly poached chicken breast and chargrilled lamb chop for lunch with accompanying sauces well plated. The molten larva chocolate cake was delicious too. Large room and large grounds with a children's playground. Helpful English speaking staff. Melnik area has wineries to visit and the wines have been enjoyable, definitely worth a visit. Fast wifi in room too.

Lovely and large room with excellent beds. Very quiet. Completely new and tastefully built and furnished.
Extraordinary friendliness of the young owner.
The cook would deserve stars because both our meals were excellent and also great to look at due to the presentation.
More than worth its (low) price.
Lots of Things around to experience.
