The Waldrand is a Friendly Pension with 3 floors of accommodation above the kitchen and dining room that is divided in to three separate areas for eating, the bedrooms are ideal for a weeks skiing with Austrian beds, separate toilet and shower area. There was only one electric socket in our room that had both bed lamps and television connected too. The meals are ok, plenty of food with help yourself salad starter / soup / main meal /desert. You run up a bar tab with the drinks being brought to you ( be careful as the final bill is a bit of a shock ) there is no coffee making facilities, if you want coffee at lunch its added to the bar bill. (we took our own travel kettle and had coffee in our room)
The breakfast is a help yourself continentel with coffee and tea. The Pension is warm so no real need to bring excessive clothing.all in all comfortable Pension.
There are a few down sides though, the walls and particularly ceilings are very thin, everything next door could be heard and every step upstairs could be heard sounding like thunder, so if you are a light sleeper take earplugs. There is no coffee or tea making facilities for residents outher than that good place to stay.

Room Tip: If you can get a room on the top floor as there is a lift

Simple but homely place to stay. Well worth booking privately rather than using a tour company. In the heart of the village, close to bus stop for morning transport to the lifts. Food is nice, especially the salad bar and soups. main course and puds nothing special, but ok. The village is quiet, not much night life which suits some. But a great place for skiing if you like red runs; most of the blue runs are not true blues, but include red in them.

This was our first stay in Scheffau although we have skied many times in Wilden Kaiser.
We had a good feeling about this place as soon as we arrived and the owner George introduced himself. We were not disappointed. George and Ingrid are great hosts. The food was probably the best we have had in Austria, breakfast was typical continental style and George provided a choice of 2 options for dinner from which you selected your evening meal. Drinks were served with the evening meal on a 'tab' basis that you pay for at the end of the week. The cost of the drinks was very reasonable. The room was of ample size, warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. There was a small tv in the room and we were able to get the BBC news channel. It had on-suite shower room with a separate wc. We were in room 101 on the 1st floor and we had very fast free wifi in the room. There is a heated boot room on the lower floor and ski storage in the shed just outside the hotel entrance door. There is also a free Sauna on the lower floor that I think was available for use from about 4-7pm. The hotel is in a very quiet location so we were never disturbed during the night.
If you are a party person, then maybe Scheffau is not the place for you. I believe there is a pub in the village, but we never went there. There are a few bars at the Gondola station that were good for Apre beers, but once you leave those bars Scheffau is a very quiet place. There is a very good bus service from the village down to the Gondola. Buses run about every 15 mins on a loop. They do stop between 1-2pm, but outside of those time I think they ran from about 8am to about 6pm. You can also get buses to other villages (Soll, Elmau etc) from the same stop in the village, but not sure how often they ran. The bus stop is just next to the church in the middle of the village. There is a Supermarket just across the road from the church also. The walk to the bus stop from the hotel takes about 3-4 mins and is easily achievable in ski boots while carrying skis. I believe you could also rent a locker at the ski shop at the Gondola if you did not want to carry skis.
One tip for skiers, if you need skis serviced, use the shop in the village beside the bus stop. They charge 18euros for a service, whereas the shop at the Gondola will charge 25 euros.
Acid test. Would I go back to the Waldrand? Definitely. We loved this place. Great friendly service, good bus service to the lifts, no lift queues and if you are past the party animal stage a nice quiet relaxing place to stay.
Thanks George and Ingrid for your hospitality.

This pension is a little gem. Tucked away from the village, in a very quiet spot, all you can hear are the birds, and water flowing gently from the nearby stream, which is tranquil. The owners are George and Ingrid who are very welcoming and friendly. The food is tasty, with vegetarian option. The rooms are large, basically furnished but comfortable with good wardrobe space. It's a 5 minute walk to the village centre, where the free ski bus, which runs frequently takes you to the gondola 10 minute ride away. Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed in the Pension Am Waldrand the first week in Februar 2016. Georg and Ingrid were very welcoming. Our rooms were basic, but very clean and comfortable. The food was excellent. We had a big choice of Continental breakfast and every evening we sat down to a 4 course dinner. Exactly what you need after a full day of skiing.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Pension Am Waldrand.
