“Definately recommend this chalet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2011

We stayed in the main Chalet Alber building, not the annexe, and have to say that all the rooms and the hotel itself was very spacious. The food was reasonable and to be fair I have had better at a chalet, (I have had much worse too), but on balance the chalet was absolutely fine, and a much better standard than most French chalets. We had a great holiday! Our room was quite large and nicely fitted out and had a TV with some English channels which kept the kids well informed with current affairs!

The walk to the Gondola is do-able (which we did on the fiorst day) but the shuttle bus makes things much easier and is only a few paces away from the chalet. As is the case with the whole of St Anton - shuttles are the norm, so if you want to ski there - get used to them!!

we stayed here with one other young adult and three 6 year olds , it was expensive and to be honest the food was poor, the rooms furnished with broken furniture and worn carpets
the dining area souless andtired , no bootroom and at the farthest end of nasserein where the bus turns round.
The childcare and the staff were amazing and the kids were happy but for us being so far out it was an awful plave tpo spend your evening.
Ski esprit flight for kids ---- 6.30 am at GTW and then a pick up at 6.30 am for a midday flight . My opinion dont go esprit . Food awful but not the staff fault it was obviously a really cheap menu from HQ

Room Tip: dont go

Our family suite was good although the furniture is old and slightly falling apart. It was spacious and on the top floor so very quiet. Stairs are marble so not great for young children traipsing up and down all day but on the whole fine.
The dining room lets this chalet down, it is simply too small for all the guests so breakfast is always packed with people waiting. There is not enough room for them to lay out a decent breakfast so it was very basic and the concept of soft boiled eggs is beyond the staff. The cereal tasted like cardboard and they have cut the corners a bit too much on this meal.
At evening time the dining room is sufficient for adults although the conversation is hard to follow other than for those immediately beside you. The room heats up quickly so don't sit beside the window as it needs to be open and the air is cold. The kids dinner is noisy and hectic with the staff not as organised as at adult dinner time. It comes out in dribs and drabs and the staff don't seem to be organised enough at this earlier dinner.
The hotel is up a hill and a bus ride from town - it also has no boot room which means you need to cart your stuff up the hill each day or hire an area in town. Everyone will hire in town but it is an additional cost that is well hidden from you.

This was our third holiday with Esprit and reading the reviews on here before going I wad dreading it, but on arrival I was pleasantly surprised, transfers ontime, staff ready to help with the luggage and a better chalet than expected, sure it's a little way out (10 min walk but good exercise) bus service was on time and really only needed on the walk back ( uphill) food in chalet was excellent with a three course meal and free wine all night. the breakfast was continental style with eggs and porridge as a hot option. There is no boot room but the excellent ski shop esprit uses (Jenneweir sport) has a locker service which saves you having to carry all your gear home every night. The childcare staff were excellent with all the children and the chalet staff were always on hand to offer anything we needed. The skiing in St Anton is excellent albeit a bit harder than we were used to, but hey you have to have a challenge to test yourself occassionaly. Please remember you are only renting part of the chalet for a week and not buying it, this is the best value for money you will find taking into account all the transfers, food and wine. Well done Esprit and thanks to all the staff and other guests who made or week enjoyable.

Overall the Holiday was OK - Sking/staying in St Anton makes up for a lot of "Holiday" deficiencies.

The Good -
Childcare - excellent but watch out for small groups - 3/4 Y/O's only had 3 kids and 1 older child on his own! (large group of "adults only" stayed in chalet also which disrupted the "family feel" Meant that kids got a bit bored with each other and ski classes a bit tiring and monotonous (2 hours is too long when only 3 in class).
Food was OK - Basic but generally filling and edible - michelin fine dining it aint - dont expect that for the prices paid - only gripe would be portions of veg etc - a bit stingy. Plenty of cheap free wine with dinner though.
Chalet Staff were generally good and helpfull - seemed to be alot of them!
Ski school well run with race and medals for all at end of week.
St Anton is heaven! The Wiesbeir is great and locals good fun.

The Bad
Location - Chalet is way out of st anton town center and even a stiff walk from nasserein with ski's and boots - PS Chalet has no boot room - amazing!
Bus' - regular and ontime but only 2 an hour in "peak" morning / evening time - then fall to 1 an hour rest of day with nothing after 6pm - rubbish - you end up walking or wasting heaps of time waiting around.
Welcome Dinner - we arrived about 6.30/7ish - kids were forced to have "high tea" straight away and sent to bed with adults dinner at 8pm! - sorry ever tried to get a toddler off to sleep after eating late in a strange room - 1st night children and adults should be allowed to eat together when late arriving - would have eased everyone's pain. Sort it out esprit.
Esprit resort reps - when we arrived - coach dropped us at other ski total chalet in town to catch connecting taxi to chalet - more moving cases etc - except our connection was not there - we had to wait 3/4 of an hou for 2 taxi's - no appology - freezing cold at 6pm at night with kids.
The "free" ski hire for children promised when booking never materialised and we were told we'd need to spend another £50 quid for them to join the ski classes (already booked). Sort it out Esprit. Wasnt helped by the surly ski rep.
Travel home - again kept waiting around at chalet for connecting taxi for 1/2 hour and then complete chaos when connecting to 1 of 4 coaches ? nobody knew which coach was going where!
Honesty Bar - Charging 3.50 euro's for bottle of beer in the frifge which costs less than 1 euro at the shop down the road takes the P**s - buy your own. I'd of happily paid 2 euro to give staff some pocket money but not 2.5 a drink.

The indifferent
Breakfast in these places is always a drag - no space - bomb site if down last and poor food choice - often had to ask for baskets to be refilled etc. A croisant would have gone down a bomb. But you get what you pay for.
Bedrooms a bit dull, but clean - our triple room was not as promissed - Austrian twin and single but 3 singles - so spent the night rearranging beds - it would seem they get a lot of groups of adults here - rather than families!

If you don’t fancy the 10 min walk to the lifts or resort centre, our private minibus shuttle* will take you there in moments, or the free ski-bus stops just 50-100m away, and is just as easy.* The private shuttle is not a taxi service, and will run at set times. ... more   less
