the staff were very helpful , the place is magical and romantic (it's an old castle ) you feel like you are in a story, very clean and tidy , free big parking area, very comfortable beds , very close to zell am see lake and they have their private beach reserved (it's around 5 min walk from the hotel). it's the best place if your are looking for a relaxing holiday in Zell am see , as the area is very quiet and green.
a car is a must if you r staying there.

the only think I didn't like was the wifi in the rooms which was very weak, another thing was the distant from the center as it takes around 30 min . otherwise it was perfect.

We booked the "fisherman haus" and it was PERFECT!

the cottage is away from the hotel with 2 small ponds next to it. trees all around and private.
the room was large with a beautiful fire place. large bathroom and another smaller bedroom for kids. we wished that we could have stayed longer.
breakfast was good with made to order eggs.
staff were very friendly and welcoming. we will definitely stay at his cottage again

Room Tip: The fisherman haus

We stayed here for one night as part of a wedding party and my what a place. After reading other reviews we may have had a different experience as we were part of a wedding party that booked out the whole castle and experienced a stay here with the staff hosting a wedding.

We stayed on the first floor in the double bedroom connected to the master bedroom. The room was huge and the bed was very comfortable. We also loved the slippers and dressing gowns provided. The bathroom facilities were excellent and so modern. We loved the contrast of the traditional rooms and communal area with the modernity of the bathrooms.

Whilst we did not try the breakfast, we ate in the adjoining building for the wedding and the food and drinks were of an exceptional standard.

All of the facilities and areas of the hotel that we experienced for the wedding were beautiful and of a high standard. However it would definitely be more beneficial to have a car when staying at this hotel as the town of Zell Am See would be a long walk away in the evenings or for getting around to attractions etc.

Stayed here for 2 nights.

First, the not so good stuff:

1. On the Tuesday we arrived all the staff left at 6pm and the restaurant was closed. The hotel bar is closed at 6pm every day, meaning there are in effect no evening amenities in or around the hotel apart from the expensive restaurant.

2. It's quite a walk (30-40 minutes) from the actual town of Zell am See. I wouldn't stay here again without a car. There is a scheduled bus service to and from town, however the last bus leaves very early (around 7pm), there is no information to be found online about it (we had to pick up the schedule from the tourist information in town), and the bus only leaves once or twice an hour (depending on the hour).

Now, the pros:

1. The hotel is undoubtedly beautiful and the room was clean and well furnished.

2. The Nespresso machine in the room was a nice touch.

3. Good free WiFi in the room (fast enough to watch NetFlix).

4. Nice breakfast, and our server for breakfast on the first morning gave us good advice for our planned hiking trip that day.

5. The hotel has a private beach, although we didn't have time to experience this.

The castle and its grands are beautiful. The interiors are also tastefully decorated. The buffet breakfast offered a variety of choice and gluten free toast and lactose free spread was available on request.

We checked in on a Tuesday just as all the staff were going home. So, there was no one to ask about the local facilities, etc., and the bar and restaurant were closed. Our room was beautifully decorated but it could have been cleaner. The bathroom had three spiders and the window was covered in cobwebs. My dirty coffee cup was not replaced on the second morning by the cleaner. Allied to that, there were no instructions about how to use the safe. The brown haired waitress on duty for breakfast on the Wednesday was grumpy and when I asked for lactose free spread, she thumped it down on the table- she was a complete contrast to the blonde woman who had greeted us the day previous. On the first day, we were offered a choice of cooked eggs, but on the second day we were offered nothing and felt like we couldn't ask the waitress because she seemed so hostile. Then to add insult to injury, it turned out that there was problem with how our booking had been processed when we checked in, so checking out took longer than it should have, which meant that we didn't have time to catch the bus and had to order a taxi.
