We stayed at the Romantik for 10 days and we couldn't have asked for more from it! The staff were lovely and very helpful, the room was spacious and immaculate and the location was perfect - very central with the lake about 1 minute walk away. We borrowed the hotel's bikes which were great for going around the lake on and used the spa regularly - the outdoor pool was perfect for a quick dip after a day in the mountains. But the best thing about the hotel was the food! The evening meals were amazing - 5 courses of great food with plenty of choice and variation; we tried everything from schnitzel to kangaroo. We would definitely recommend it and hope to be back one day!

We have recently returned from a family holiday at the Romantik Hotel which is a picturesque traditional hotel centrally based in a quiet street in Zell am See. It is in close proximity to the shops, lake and restaurants. The staff wear traditional dress and are very welcoming particularly the reception staff who went out of their way to be helpful.
We stayed for a week in August in room 205 which overlooked the swimming pool and mountains at the rear of the hotel. The room was spacious with a separate bedroom for my two children aged 11 and 7. There was also a balcony and seating area as well as a separate large bathroom and toilet.
All rooms are provided with robes and slippers for use in the excellent spa facilities which included indoor Jacuzzi's, two large water beds, sauna, steam room and indoor and out door pool area as well as relaxation areas. It was just a perfect way of relaxing after a busy day exploring Zell am See and the surrounding area. The spa and pool area was never over crowded many times we had it to ourselves. On our arrival we were also given 100 euros in vouchers for use on treatments which was a nice surprise as we did not realise treatments were included with our holiday which we booked direct through the hotel rather than using a travel agency.
The food at the hotel was traditional Austrian food and was lovely. At dinner there was a choice of three mains which always included a vegetarian option and there was usually 6 courses which included the daily salad buffet. One night there was a traditional Austrian barbecue.. There was also a seperate childs menu which consisted of pasta, fish fingers and sausage. There was some flexibility with this for example we asked for vegetables and potatoes on occasions rather than chips and this was provided. Breakfast was a buffet of fruit, cereal, meats, cheese, yoghurt and cake and then there was eggs, bacon, sausage and a waffle and omelette station where food was freshly cooked to order. The waffles and syrup were a real hit with my two children! For a small charge of 5 Euro a paper bag could be purchased to fill with items for lunch for the breakfast buffet.(This was included with package holidays)
One of the best features of this hotel is the Zell am See card which was provided by the hotel and cannot be purchased. It saved us a fortune as it gave us some free cable car use (No need to queue for a ticket) and free access to the lido on the lake as well as heavily discounted travel rates on the buses. We also enjoyed a free boat ride the list is really endless where this card was accepted.
For a family with children the games room attached to the hotel next to the bar was a nice touch. Our children loved on an evening after dinner playing pool, table football and darts.
The hotel also provides free use of adult bikes complete with locks. Whilst they don't provide children's bikes the reception staff were very accommodating and rang around on a bank holiday to find a cycle hire that was open that could provide bikes for our children so we could cycle around the lake as a family.
This hotel really did exceed my expectations and I cannot recommend it enough. There was a lot of attention to detail for example every morning with the menu choices there was a programme of suggested events taking place in Zell am See that day. The free water / laser light show on the lake is worth seeing. Reception also provided us with walking / cable car maps which were very handy for planning excursions. We shall certainly return to this hotel in the near future even if it is to say hello to Max the resident cat!

Just back from an excellent stay at the Hotel Romantik, it's situated in a handy location not far from the lake and the centre of Zell am See. What made the holiday for us was the very friendly staff (nothing was too much trouble) and wonderful food. We had a peaceful stay and enjoyed using the the hotel spa. As we didn't manage to see all we wanted of the area no doubt we'll go back and hope to stay at the Romantik.

Romantik hotel is centrally located on a quiet pedestrianised Street. It's a charming 'picture box' building from outside but even better on the inside if you like original hostelry features. Lots of panelling, creaky staircases, fireplaces, beamed ceilings and hundreds of old photographs and memorabilia. In contrast you have acess to a more modern Spa with heated pools and saunas. My wife and I made use of these on late afternoons when we had it much to ourselves with maybe 6 to 10 other guests.
Food at breakfast buffet is excellent. Special mention for the cooked to order omelette!

All the hotel staff are very helpful with advice for excursions etc. Even Moxi the cat is the friendly type.

The Zell am See card is an excellent bonus with free use of some boat trips and cable cars.

Highly recommended

Booked a week at the Romantik Hotel through Inghams for a summer holiday. We booked a room with a balcony. The hotel is comfortable, with a spa with a whirlpool and swimming pool which was lovely after long walks in the mountains. Dont leave it until the last day to use the free suanas, there are 3 of varying heat which are non nude and they are fantastic. There is also a traditional nude suana but we were not brave enough to use that! The hotel also offers massages for a fee.

The reception staff we always welcoming, and very helpful providing train and bus information and booking us onto a trip. The room had a kettle and tea bags. There was no coffee in the room and the cups were tiny. We asked for extra pillows and they were provided within minutes. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom but it is not great for styling. We asked for a hairdryer and it was provided no problem but you may want to bring your own hairdryer if you have long hair like my GF.

We were on half board basis and the breakfast buffet was great, with a hot station cooking up ommelettes and bacon & eggs. With the Inghams package we could make up our own lunch for free from the buffet which was a real bonus. Dinners were very good with normally 4 courses and a salad. Drinks were not included in the package but were reasonably priced.

We used the hotel bikes for free to cycle to Sigmund Thum gorge via Kaprun and back around the lake which was a lovely day. Would reccomend the car museum as an interesting detour. The Kaprun card was included in our package at the hotel. This provided free entry to the lidos, the car museum, the sightseeing boats on the lake, all the mountain lifts and discount on the bus and the steam train. The lidos were great for swimming in the lake (the lido opposite Zell am See has a better pool for adults and has sun later in the afternoon),

There are lovely walks on the mountains, the high altitude reservoirs are a great day out and free with the Kaprun card and only 1 eu for the 660 bus to get there. Stop off at the Kitzeinhorn mountian to ride to the glacier on the lifts and back. Again free with the Kaprun card but watch the time for the last bus back.. We enjoyed the steam train to the Krimml falls (30% off with the Kaprun card) but there is not enough time to walk to the top of the falls and eat lunch and catch the return steam train. The seats need to be booked on the outward journey. We took the normal train back on the same ticket. All the staff on both the steam and normal train were so helpful. The steam train stops for 30 minutes to take on water at Mittersill which is perfect timing to get off and buy a coffee and cake at the little cafe at the end of the platform. The trains are operated by Localbahm from platform 11 and 12 of the main station in Zell am See.

If you want to try another restuarant in the town for dinner then I suggest you do so on the BBQ night. There are cakes available each day from 4 to 5 in the hotel.

We could easily have stayed another week in the resort and would not have run out of things to do in the area. Had a lovely holiday and would reccomend this hotel and resort as a great base.
