We have stayed in Glockenstuhl hotel in early Jan 2012. This is a very high season but we have no choice as we have to travel during our children school holiday. We decided to book in advance and as far as we have chosen Mayrhofen as our destination I sent a request to almost all hotels. It was in August. However most of them replied that they are fully booked at the requested period. Local travel agencies nevertheless were offering the rooms in all of them but for the price three times higher then announced on the hotel websites. Seems most of the Mayrhofen’s hotels prefer to work with travel agencies but not directly with tourists. Reply from Glockenstuhl came very promptly, offered price was reasonable and we booked it and never ever were sorry about that!
This is really the marvelous hotel with a special home-style atmosphere. It’s declared as a 3 stars hotel, but at least our room looked like 4 stars. We are very experienced travelers and visited very many hotels around the worlds, both very expensive (in case of business travel) and sometimes pretty modest if travel at our own expenses, therefore we can compare.
We had a family suite with two spacious rooms and kitchenette. Bathroom facilities were very new, high quality and clean. Kitchenette although not very large, but with fridge, microwave, coffee-machine, stove and kettle. The only a little bit disappointing point about kitchenette is that from all tableware we have found only a few plates there. However we have asked the owner for tea cups and get them promptly, some cutlery could be very useful as well but we hesitated to bother the owners again or probably were too lazy as owners are very friendly and never have given us a hint that they should not be bothered.
Breakfast was very satisfactory, it’s a buffet, although not very large but with a full set of usual things you need for a morning meal. All food was fresh and tasty, and I guess if somebody needs something special, the owner could cook it upon request. The owners serve breakfast by their own, always ask us if everything is fine and if we need something more. One of the owner always calls us by name and it makes us feel as a personal guest. Definitely the owners care about the service they provide and guests’ comfort.
Location is very good, main Mayrhofen street is just 3 min walk, main lift to Penken is in 5 min walk along the river, Largest in town sportgoods store is almost next door, skibus stop is in 1 min walk.
All in all this is very cozy, clean hotel with a very special atmosphere. I try to think about negative points and could recall may be just one – it’s very hot in rooms and their real downy duvets are hot as well. Although the heating was totally switched off for night time, it was still too hot to sleep under this duvet. So we had to open our windows very widely during all nights. I admit it’s very healthy to sleep under the duvet with a fresh mountain air in your room, but difficult to get out of bed at morning in chilly room, also I worried and checked frequently if my children who slept in another room are covered properly. However, once again, I suppose if it would be indeed too bothering for us, I guess the owner could give us some lighter blankets but we never asked. I would definitely recommend this hotel to families or people who are not looking for constant fun, but for coziness and home and friendly atmosphere.

I stayed here for the second time with friends snowboarding this winter. The hotel continued to offer excellent service, very clean rooms, smiling & often humourous hosts (we liked them all a lot!), great relaxed breakfasts and overall good quality.

The main reason for choosing this hotel the 1st time was it's proximity to the main Penken Gondola & high street bars/shops/restaurants and the ability to get separate rooms at very affordable prices; these selling points had not changed & this year they had installed a new spa.. sauna & steam rooms.

The hotel is small, family run, quiet and quality ..if you want something different then the high street is a short walk away.

I would recommend this hotel & will be going back again at some point!

Room Tip: If you are travelling alone, the hotel has good single rooms but often double rooms are well worth t...

Stayed one night on the way to Zell am See from Hall in Tirol. Very nice room with a view of the nearby lift and mountains beyond. Rooms were very well appointed with lots of wood paneling. Nice breakfast with eggs cooked to order. A nice touch! The two sisters who are the owners were very helpful. Their english was a little limited, but not a problem. They let me use their personal computer and gave me a converter adapter, since I had left mine at a previous stop. They had extras! Would return for a longer stay to explore the beautiful area.

We stayed for one week in July in the Zillertal Apartment. The apartment is on the third floor with a great view to the south across to the Ahorn Cable Car and mountains beyond. The hotel is a short 5-minute walk from the train station and also close to the post office to pick up the local buses. The main street in Mayrhofen is nearby. The owners work hard to provide a full Austrian breakfast including local meats and cheeses. The apartment is very spacious with separte bedroom, living area and kitchen. The beds were very comfortable after a long day hiking in the mountains. Wireless internet was available in the room however during our stay the signal was sporadic. On checking out Frau Rieser waived the internet charges without question. We were very happy with the hotel and would recommend for either a winter or summer holidy.

I arrived at the hotel after picking up a hire car from Innsbruck airport. It was very easy to find and there was plenty of free parking. Complimentary schnapps on arrival was a nice surprise.
We had a 2nd floor room with a lovely balcony and view of the mountains. The room was spotless and cleaned back to that level every day.
To be honest Mayrhofen isn't that big, but the location worked great for us as everything was a short walk within the town with easy access back to the main road and the train station.
The staff were very professional and friendly and there English was very good (a lot better than my German!). The breakfast buffet was lovely with a selection of cereals, fruit, yogurt, cold meats, cheeses, cake, eggs, bacon sausages. Not all on the same plate, but I'm sure you get the idea.
I picked this hotel as it was number 1 on Trip Advisor and I can really see why. Overall great place to stay with excellent service.
I would definitely recommend staying here.
