Laurel Street Bakery (at it's original Laurel St. location) was one of the first businesses to serve coffee after Katrina so it has a warm spot in the hearts of many New Orleanians. For those visiting the area, the Mid City location might be a bit out of your way but it's a great place to grab breakfast or lunch on the way to the airport. So many things are delicious here but the bagels, chocolate cake and granola are stand outs. I always bring home several bags of their granola every time I'm in town. The big floor to ceiling south facing windows, exposed brick and local art make the shop a nice place to eat if you have time. The staff are all charming and the clients are mostly locals who are grabbing breakfast on the way to work or stopping by for lunch. One of the best King Cakes in the city if you're in town at the right time.
