We went at 11 in the morning no lines. The muffuletta was delish. The bread was perfect I’m from NY and most bread outside of there is doughy and soggy. This had a nice crunch to it. We bought a whole sandwich it is big enough for 4 people to eat

We first happened on Central Grocery 30+ years ago. It was fun to watch the family making the muffulettas while you waited. Interior of the restaurant hasn't changed much but they did add a small eating area since our last visit. These days the line is longer, but the sandwiches are being made by the dozens as you wait in line. The olive salad is the best, and you are able to buy it there or have it shipped. Bread is the perfect texture for this delicious sandwich. Don't miss this.

this great little grocery has everything Italian you'll need while in New Orleans, including the muffaletta sandwich they claim to have been first to make. need real pasta? tomato gravy? anchovies? olive tapenade? Central Grocery is your home base.

I don't know how we missed this place! We have been to New Orleans several times and must have walked right past this. We lucked out as there were only a few people in line (by the time we left it was out the door!). We both ordered the Muffuletta sandwich. This thing is like something remotely similar to a Cuban. Did I mention it is huge? You can easily split it. The bread is fantastic and the sandwich is awesome They say it was invented in this store but who cares? It was delicious.A must to do when in NO.

Go early. Beat the line and get a sandwich that hasn't been sitting to long. A little pricey but tasty.
