Great choice in the French Quarter. More intimate than some of the spots near Burboun St. and a perfect place to bring a date. Servers are excellent and food choices limited; they simply know what they cook best. Don't expect Chicken Parm and Olive-Garden-type food, this is upscale Italian-inspired cuisine with New Orleans inspiration.

Although we were recommended Irene's because it was an Italian-infused restaurant, and the menu did not have many Italian dishes, the food was superb! We had a bit of a wait -- maybe 30 minutes -- because we walked in, instead of making a reservation (suggest making the reservation a day or two ahead). BUT, the waiting area has a piano player AND services for wine/beer/etc. This isn't a waiting lobby like a chain restaurant! Service was great -- everyone was attentive. The food was remarkable! After a couple of days of eating close-to-fast food in New Orleans, it was great to eat something that was fresh! The menu has lots of options for dietary needs. It's fine dining, but it doesn't break the bank. The atmosphere and ambiance is great, too! We were having a date night, so we dressed a little more upscale. But, patrons were in jeans, sweaters, and all sorts of styles -- so no one seemed out of place for dressing up or down. Overall, great experience! Will definitely be back on our next trip!

Recommended by locals, we loved it and Orlando is the best waiter!
You do need reservations since it is a very busy restaurant.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious!
The pecan praline bread pudding was soooo good!

This is my third time to Irene's. I wanted basic meatballs and spaghetti and they created it even though not on the menu. Also added Italian sausage . SO GOOD! Great service. Great wine too. I will return!!

I've written 109 restaurant reviews on trip advisor and have to publicly state our experience at Irene's was the best service we've ever had at a restaurant. We had our in-laws in town and were at Irene's to celebrate our 6th anniversary. It was also the first time we went to a nice restaurant with our 7 week old baby. We were hoping we could get through a meal without the baby getting fussy, but unfortunately he woke up crying. We assumed he needed to eat and since I'm nursing, we were not sure the best place to feed him. Our waiter Christopher went above and beyond to accommodate this in the middle of our dinner, he offered his own personal office for us to use. Despite eating his own dinner, our baby wasn't being very quiet during the rest of our meal and we decided to leave out of respect for the other patrons. In honor of our anniversary and new baby, Christopher ordered us creme brulee and ordered champaign for the table. Since we were leaving, he packed up the creme brulee in a to-go box and was so kind. Good food and good service is common in New Orleans, but Christopher treated us like a member of his own family and went above and beyond to ensure we (new baby included) had a wonderful meal. I also have celiac sprue and he was able to provide me with gluten free options. If you go to Irene's please make sure to request Christopher as your waiter! We will be back to thank him again in person!
