The menu is built upon the rich, multi-cultural culinary influences found throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America, West Africa, Southeast Asian, Gulf South and beyond and features eclectic and traditional/traditionally-inspired dishes with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, as well as unique and little-known flavors from around the world. Exotic fruit such as juice of the cocoa fruit (cacau), cupuacu, graviola (sour sop), caja and caju infuse Carmo's juice and cocktail menu with exciting new flavors.

We stopped in for lunch on a cold rainy day looking for soup and found a wonderful Morrocco Lentil. Excellent flavor and just what we wanted.
The salads and menu items we saw make us want to go back and try more before we leave town.
Give it a try. Don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Who knew there was such varied fresh flavor — and diverse choices for vegetarians in NOLA?!? Yummy seafood and vegetarian gumbos, innovative salad with pineapple and nuts, really delicious ceviche! Just go, and let’s support them when they need to crowdsource for a cookbook — then we can share the yumminess at home! Lovely, gracious people, too — a real win!

My husband and I were recently in New Orleans and visited the Arts District. After a couple of fun hours strolling the galleries, we stopped into Carmo for lunch. We were very happy to be in a restaurant that offered fresh vegetables. The atmosphere is casual and lively and there were lots of diners, both eating in and getting take-out. Besides an extensive menu, there were interesting daily specials. My husband chose a cup of chili and the Brazilian chicken salad and I had pulled pork on a fried plantain patty (the Rico), which came with fresh greens. The food covers a variety of ethnicities from Caribbean to South American to African, so the spices were warm and comforting. My greens had a delicious citrus vinaigrette. the chili was not overly spiced but had different flavors than normal chili. Everything was delicious!

Our waitress was very knowledgably and patient as we asked a lot of questions. The food was o.k., but with so many options in New Orleans, none in our party (4 total) would go there again.

The restaurant is probably a better fit if you are a vegetarian, even though they have non-vegetarian dishes.

I just happened to walk past Carmo on my way back from the convention center. All the tables were reserved but there was a seat open at the bar. Bartender mixed up a fantastic mojito and we laughed as he told a few stories and suggested entrees. the food was deliciously fresh- fish and vegetarian-based, but full of flavor. Highly recommend this spot!
