Owner description: Get wherever you want to go in New Orleans with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA). Our extensive network of buses and streetcars winds throughout every neighborhood of the Crescent City. From Uptown to Downtown, from Lakeview to the Lower Nine, from Mid-City across the Mississippi River and to the parish lines, the RTA goes there. As streetcars glide underneath grand live oaks and past stately mansions, they offer up relaxing views of the beauty, charm and history of New Orleans for little cost. When riders board these historic vehicles they are boarding a piece of movable New Orleans history. The RTA operates three streetcar lines: the famous, historic St. Charles line, the Canal Street line, and the Riverfront line. All lines either run along or intersect with Canal Street in the area between the French Quarter and the Central Business District (CBD) connecting Uptown/Garden District, Carrollton, Mid-City, City Park and the Marigny. The RTA is currently adding more Streetcar lines.

Couldn’t get on the train. Too crowded. Lines were long at all the stations. Would be nice if they had more trains

We took the St Charles Streetcar from Canal St up to Tulane University. (College tour for daughter). It was a great way to see the homes of the Garden District

The good news is it's cheap and gets you where you want. But it was supposed to run every 8 min and I think we waiting 15 min. Then it stops every block. Took way to long.

Give yourself enough time and these are fun! We took the St. Charles Line to The Garden District! Like the San Francisco Street Cars (without the hills) this is something you need to do in New Orleans!

New Orleans isn’t short of icons and these old ladies are part of that group. And yes you really can travel for a day for $3, what a bargain. On our brief visit, we used them as a kind of hop on hop off sightseeing service. French Market to Canal Street. Then up to Bourbon Street to get the Charles Street tram to the Garden District. A word of warning, the latter gets pretty packed. But how good to trundle along and watch the traffic queues roll by as the warm Louisiana air blows through the open windows. Streetcar operators are a breed apart, helpful and courteous but I wouldn’t want to steer a streetcar through New Orleans traffic and pedestrians for a million bucks......!!!!!!
