It's fun to walk around in the Garden District and see the beautiful homes. Also of note - right on the edge of Jackson Street is a great sandwich place - Turkey and the Wolf - that is a not to miss on any visit to New Orleans.

Walked around this neighborhood after visiting the Lafayette cemetery. Gorgeous 2 and 3 story homes, covered in New Orleans culture. The residents who we net were more than friendly! Great stroll to take. Be sure to stop the Avenue Pub for a quick bite and drink!

Time spent on St. Charles, whether it be on foot, in a car, or on the street car is quite impressive. The day we were there it was quite crowded because of some major movie shoot, with all of the attendant big rigs full of equipment and crew. That meant that traffic flowed more slowly, which allowed for gawking at the fabulous homes.

We had to walk four miles through the Garden District while the trolley service was down. I will say I may not have taken the opportunity to really view the buildings and houses if not for the closed routes.
If you enjoy architecture then you would enjoy walking the streets in the Garden District. Actually anywhere in New Orleans.

We stayed in a rented home that we booked using an online service and found this area to be very nice. Lots of older homes, several parks and close to the convention center, bluebike hubs, Lafayette Cemetery and St Charles trolleys made it the perfect area for us.
